BACKGROUND
Hoshi Yamada was a down on her luck case. Orphaned at a young age, she bounced from foster home to foster home and from school to school. An anti-social delinquent, Hoshi made few friends and was constantly finding herself in trouble with whatever particular authority was nearby. Teachers, foster parents, occasionally even the police... the teenaged Hoshi seemed to be a rebel without a clue, content to simply drift through, and consequentially waste, her life.

And then, one day, something strange happened. Something wondrous happened. A miracle happened.

A shooting star fell out of the sky one night, streaked through the sky, and bonked Hoshi right on the noggin. But instead of splattering her brains on the pavement like one would expect, it merely knocked her on her butt and when she came to, there was a teardrop shaped jewel laying there on the ground next to her. Picking up the still warm jewel, she transformed into Profound Defender, Miracle Hoshi-chan! She purifies evil by shoving it up her who-hah, breaking it up inside her, and dispersing it throughout the cosmos as sparkly dust. And she really wishes there were a different way to do it.

It's been an adjustment ever since.

Now, Hoshi had a purpose in her life! Her grades improved marginally, she started being nicer to the people around her, and though she's often still a very lonely little girl, she takes heart in the fact that she's protecting people by night, even if most of them will never know. She's young and she's inexperienced, but her magical powers make her a nigh-indestructible little brick of a thing (for better or worse) and she is, far more importantly, more then willing to fling herself at the darkness, sword first. If only things would stop eating her on a semi-regular basis then life would be just ducky!
