History Once upon a time there was a country in the far northeast. It's soils were the richest in all the lands, some say. Every plant there bore untold quantities of fruit, vegetables and flowers. Beneath that was said to be gold and silver deposits of immense quantities. It was said to be heaven on earth, until a war broke out in the country's own soil. The royal family was trying to strengthen ties with a country to the south of their own. A land of samurai, warlords and violence. At least this was how the residents of the northern country saw them. Being accustomed to having everything they could want, the people's greed led them into battle. The foxtailed people had become angry with the other country which sought out the use of their soils during a period of hardship. Ignoring the royal family's orders, they led an attack on the other country who quickly retaliated. Negotiations were cancelled and war between the two broke out. Thus the invasion of the country and the eradication of this odd race began. The people of the smaller country had never needed defenses, so were not very experienced in the art of war. Many had been peaceful farmers, who just did not want to share the land they had worked for centuries. In an effort to re-establish peace and save their people, the royal family offered one of their own; the queen's daughter. Her daughter was a girl of thirteen years, who bore an oddly colored set of ears and tail. In agreement, the southern country seized the girl, who became a token of peace for the two countries. There were those who did not wish for peace, which led to the girl's death in the hands of a fox-tailed assassin within the season. Story of this travelled far and wide causing war to break out once again. The girl's race had fallen quickly, leaving only a few who would struggle to survive within the southern country. For years nothing was said about her kind, until one day a story arose, travelling far and wide. It spoke of the foxgirl being reborn as a deity. For the first time, her whole name was spoken. Miwa Takahashi was that name and a shrine was erected in it. People came from long distances to visit the shrine, leaving prayers and donations. Eventually the inner contents of it was set to flame. Many families opposed the shrine because it was heresy to worship such a thing. Being stone, all but the walls and ceiling were eradicated. What was left was a small mirror, which was soon stolen from the shrine. Several years passed and still word of the girl's reincarnation spread. Many disbelieved it, but it soon became apparent that this story was quite true. Miwa Takahashi was said to be living in the shrine now! Visitors once more came from afar to see the desecrated shrine, where a girl had begun to plant seeds which grew into stunning and massive plants and trees. The shrine which was on the property of a peaceful man, was soon under the protection of his family. If this girl was indeed a deity, he was not going to shame his family by allowing harm to come to her. Soon, the family paid a visit to the girl, refurbishing her shrine and offering any assistance they could to the girl who seemed to be an eternal child. Years passed and no harm came to the girl, just as promised. Her trees and various plants grew to amazing sizes, producing those legendary fruits of her country. It seemed order had been restored, finally. Time passed, and her shrine became overgrown with her own plants. Nowadays, without venturing closer, one cannot even tell there's a shrine there except for the sign on the stairs leading up to it. |
