One look at Nyssah should be more than enough for one to know that, well, she's not human. Rather, she's an Iphel; an aquatic "species," if you can call it that, that has survived and thrived by rapidly evolving with drastic changes to each new generation. You see, the Iphel are mono-gendered, meaning that they are a single-gendered species. However, their unique reproductive systems allow procreation with nearly any species, given there is a male, where the best and most beneficial traits are taken and used for the next generation. So, just what was in the nest of 5-15 eggs that Nyssah was part of? Well, what came before that is all but lost to time. What isn't lost to time is the father of the "litter," which was a human. The recent traits taken from the human father have allowed Nyssah to be the first of her species to become amphibious.

Despite being amphibious, the water is still Nyssah's comfort zone with her spending the majority of her current existence under the waves, until recently where she has begun to take to the shores more often. While she can speak English, albeit a bit fragmented and broken at times, she hasn't quite taken to understanding the rules and precedents of the world above the crashing waves. While she wishes to integrate into the society of humans, as humans are the species who allowed her to be able to venture so far from the sea, she finds it quite difficult. After all, many don't look too kindly on a carnivorous creature emerging from the sea who happens to be from a species rather infamous for eating sailors, and that's not even touching upon her limited social skills. That's not to say that the aquired taste for humans has vanished, however, but she does wish to learn more of the foreign species. Odds are she'll need a bit of a "guide" for this task, however.

The Iphel possess various different features that one would expect in an amphibious creature, such as webbed fingers and toes to allow easy movement through water, fin-like ears that allow only the best sense of hearing in water, and a respiratory system that can process both water and air. On her sides, beneath the armpits Nyssah possesses large gills that are used in the smaller, lower section of her lungs, while the larger, upper section is used for proceessing oxygen through the air. On her head is a hard carapace-like structure that protects her against high-impact blows. Moving onto the digestive system, taken from sharks in previous generations, Nyssah's mouth holds multiple rows of teeth, albeit only two rows rather than the average five. Beyond that, in the back of her throat are two glands that secrete toxins into the bite wounds that the two rows of teeth inflict, paralyzing and immobilizing prey for easier consumption. Beyond the back of the mouth, many of the digestive organs appear transparent, with a glowing, abnormally shaped heart providing light. Beyond the transparent esophagus is a clear sack that is used for storing prey when the stomach is already digesting. Directly below this sack is the actual stomach, leading to rather short, this time translucent intestines.
