Personality: Oaknut comes off as coy, wry, clever-- though smug might be a better word for it, since the squirrel isn't nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Always saying the wrong things to people way tougher than him, always biting off more than he can chew... and then running up the nearest tree like a huge coward when he realizes he's pissed someone off. 'Course, you could always feed into his ego; he'd love a subordinate to bully around, and complimenting him has proven the easiest way to lower his guard.



So Who Is He?: Oaknut Swiftwood, a household name and the greatest mapmaker who's ever lived! ..is what he'd like you to think, anyway. But in fact, Oaknut has never successfully mapped any area in his life. The problem being that there are a lot of really scary predators out there, and Oaknut has zero sense of adventure. He's a huge scaredy-squirrel. He'd sooner get someone else to do his job for him.

Other cartologists tell him the same thing; "go to the Adventurer's Guild, hire an Adventurer, get them to escort you." But Oaknut doesn't see why he should pay so much money for some brainless lunk to just follow him around! He's always paying the lowest possible price, the real bottom dollar, and getting the weakest or most cowardly adventurers to explore the countryside with him-- and they either end up getting eaten with him, or they end up being a predator their self. Really! It's like the Guilds don't even screen their Adventurers.

He couldn't tell you HOW many times he's paid "good money" for a "qualified bodyguard" only to find out the only things they wanted to do to his body were A) gobble him up or B) molest him. Don't even get him started on how many people think they're clever with that whole "I've got a nut you can stuff in your cheeks" schtick. Honestly, it's hard to be such a gifted genius and unable to do your job properly, just because everybody else is either incompetent or a lecherous oaf.
