Oasah
Welcome to the Oasah Region!
The Oasah Region is a jewel of nature, located in the heart of a vast, sprawling desert. It is unique within the Pokémon world in that it is populated almost entirely by demi-human and anthropomorphic Pokémon, colloquially known as Pokémorphs (or just 'morphs', as they're generally referred to in common speech). It is said that the legendary Equalix founded the Oasah region hundreds of years ago, marking the area as his domain by permanently altering the DNA of all its inhabitants. This unprecedented event changed Oasah forever; the varied and numerous Pokémorphs that Equalix created have long since made it their own, building a cosmopolitan society with a fascinating and distinct culture found nowhere else in the world.
Humans may be comparably weak and possess none of a Pokémon's mystical abilities, but Pokémorphs can nevertheless be captured by them just as easily as any other Pokémon. Trainers of all sorts thus flock to Oasah with the hopes of meeting, befriending, and potentially capturing one of these unique, sentient hybrids... but the majority of morphs view non-consensual capture as nothing short of slavery, making it the subject of complex ethical debate. Many of the region's occupants are very hostile toward Pokémon Trainers as a result, with some even going so far as to resent humankind in its entirety, often citing the power they 'unfairly' hold over morphs as the reason for their hatred. Oasah is therefore an enticing yet dangerous place for Trainers to explore, and while brave souls flock there regardless to experience its wonders for themselves, many would-be adventurers are dissuaded by the frightening risks it presents.
Not helping that case is the harsh reality of Oasah's current situation: it has fallen on dark times in recent years, increasing its already omnipresent danger ever further. The nefarious Team Equilibrium, formed 8 years ago by a young geneticist with terrifying ambition, has taken widespread control of the region. Its members frequently assault and ambush innocent citizens, abducting them for experimentation or injecting them with harmful DNA that irreversibly warps their bodies. Many Pokémorphs live in fear of Equilibrium's malice, and rightly so-- but the last time the populace dared attempt to defy them, the entire city of Veld was lost to their dreadful crimes against nature, reduced to a dismal and unenviable haven occupied entirely by mutants.
The only true bastion of safety and beauty within Oasah is Flamberge, the shining city at the very heart of the vast oasis from which the area draws its name. Flamberge is a sprawling metropolis inhabited solely by Pokémorphs; humans are not permitted within the walls of its magical barrier, Pokéballs are explicitly illegal there, and its rigorous customs include psychic scans to ensure that no one with ill will can enter. It is protected day and night by the region's famed superhero, The Eternal Flame, and its residents enjoy lives free from the fears that plague many of Oasah's other cities. Unfortunately, even Flamberge is not completely perfect... its streets are rich and vibrant and its population is constantly growing, but the slums at the bottom of the city speak volumes of the inequality present there. Corruption abounds beneath the surface and the local mafia are an ever-growing threat, constantly looking for ways to overturn the peace.
It is within this strange and fascinating region that our story begins. Are you ready to enter this brand new world of Pokémon?
