At Her Fingertips: The Cosmic Artistry of the Fairy Pariah, Odonata; Or, Creative Differences; Or, The Order of the Day
After a disagreement with the fae courts on whether constantly making pranks and mischief for the mortal realm is really that good of a use of their time, Odonata has set forth to truly make the most of her exemplary command of wild magic!

Well, sort of. In truth, she was kicked out. Even suggesting that the fairies do anything but have a fun time is grounds for exile from their society. Odonata is off to a good start, though, living on her own. Why, she already has an entire tiny solar system at her fingertips!

As a rule, fairies are very much opposed to deities hanging around. Barring the occasional exception, they are anathema to the fairies’ life of revelry--stuffy, dry, and rules-oriented. Out of spite for their grand creations, their bloated cosmoses constructed with rigid laws, the fairies cause whatever havoc they can get away with. A divine guardian transposed galaxies away, or a strategically-placed changeling are all the fairies need to satisfy their grudge. The fairies know that dozens of minor tricks played across the universe can undermine a god’s design in a big way, and they’ve been plying their trade for eons..

But Odonata was tired of disrupting the world! She wanted to make something all her own! Preferably, she had hoped, with the assistance of her fellow courtiers. She beseeched the other fae to follow her into the weird, untamed reaches of the multiverse--to the spaces in between any pantheon’s tapestry. There, they would be free to wield their chaotic, primordial magic uninhibited. There, they could create a perfect world just for them!

Her fellow fairies weren’t having it, though. Constructing realities was a lot of hard work. Pranking the denizens of the reality already built was so much simpler, and it came far more naturally to them! Would Odonata truly ask that her people dabble in creation, like their loathsome foes? It was inconceivable.

Odonata was summarily banished from fairy society, left to pursue her plots all on her own.

She’s come far, since then! The tiny realities she constructs and anchors to the end of her staff are usually stable enough that she can take them out of the madness-betwixt-worlds where they’re formed, and into a “proper” universe. Odonata has yet to create anything more than a tiny star orbited by a few small planets, but the fairies wouldn’t need a lot of space for their new home, at least to start.

Sometimes, Odonata wondered if she made the right decision, if she shouldn’t have recanted her proposal and begged to stay with her brethren. Who’s she even doing this for, if not for them? Why should she continue, when they rejected her proposal outright?

She would just have to really impress them! She would have to become the best non-deity reality-architect there was! She began populating the worlds she built, to prove that the fairies could live happily there! She began adding additional star systems! Her model universes grew ever more complex! Eventually, she’d be able to scale things up, to make them fairy-sized!

Odonata still made mistakes, of course. Sometimes she’d get the orbits wrong, or she’d forget that non-fairy life needs air to breathe. Sometimes, Odonata stomped on the end of her staff while setting up her latest encampment. Whoops! But while those might be eschatological catastrophes for the denizens of her worlds, for Odonata, they were minor setbacks! She could always begin anew!

Odonata is the alternate universe analogue of an inhuman scourge of planet Cuscuta, a creature that was once a powerful archmage. She is not his former life, his blood relative, or a close acquaintance. She's the monster if it were a fairy noble dabbling in the creation of tiny pocket universes, while the obscenity is best left forgotten.
