Konan was stoic, calm, and level-headed. As a child, she was bright, compassionate, and relatively cheerful, in comparison to Yahiko's tough attitude and Nagato's sensitivity. However, the traumatic events since then have led her to become a very serious person, and she never spoke during Akatsuki meetings. Nevertheless, she has always placed the safety of her team-mates above her own. Konan also showed romantic feelings towards Yahiko, caring for him and wanting to be as close to him as possible.She did seem to be more empathic than most other Akatsuki members, as she appeared sad whenever she was reminded of her past. She also expressed a great deal of loyalty and courtesy to Pain, doing his bidding without question, looking out for his well-being and always having complete faith in his abilities. She seemed to act as an intermediary between Pain and Ame, the villagers having given her the title "God's Angel", because with her paper wings activated, she resembles one.

When she was young, Konan's family was killed during the Second Shinobi World War, and she was left to fend for herself.Some time later, Yahiko found her, and the two worked together to survive. Not long after that, Konan went for a walk and found a young, dying Nagato and his dog, Chibi. She rescued him and brought him back to their hideout. Gradually the three became best friends. They eventually encountered the Sannin, who gave them some food. Konan impressed them by making an elaborate flower out of the paper wrappers left behind as a sign of gratitude. When Orochimaru suggested to kill them so they would not have to suffer the horrors of war, Jiraiya instead opted to stay and teach the three how to look after themselves.

Dance of the Shikigami- Using her high origami and ninjutsu skills, Konan can turn her body and clothing into many sheets of paper. She can control and reshape even parts of her body with sheets at will, making such forms as weapons for attack, butterflies for spying, paper airplanes for quick transport, or simply covering her enemy in sheets of paper, restricting and asphyxiating them. She is also capable of hovering while in her paper form.
Paper Chakram - Konan combines a large quantity of paper sheets into a single chakram-like shape, which she then throws at the intended target. While in flight, the disc spins with tremendous speed and its trajectory and inclination can be freely manipulated by her, presenting opportunities to attack the enemy from all angles, even if the disc is initially avoided. The discs spins so fast that a collide between two of them result in a considerable impact.
Kami Bunshin - This technique takes advantage of Konan's ability to create and manipulate paper. By infusing her chakra into paper, she can shape it into a perfect replica of herself that she can control remotely. When the clone is hit or disperses, it merely collapses back into sheets of paper. In the anime, it was shown that Konan could conceal explosive tags in the paper clones as well.
Kami no Shisha no Jutsu - This is Konan's ultimate technique where, using an innumerable amount of small sheets of paper, she causes the lake in Amegakure to be split in half, resulting in the rapid creation of a huge abyss beneath the target. Due to the sudden lack of any available foothold, the target inevitably descends ever-deeper into the depths of the chasm. In order to enhance the attack's lethality and limit potential forms of retaliation, Konan mixes in six hundred billion of prepared explosive tags with her normal paper, which is enough for ten minutes of non-stop explosions. These explosive tags can also be directed towards the target as they fall.
Kami Shruiken - A technique that consists of pouring one's chakra into a scrap of paper in a split second, hardening and sharpening it, so it can be used as a shuriken. Its sharpness is equal to that of a shuriken made of metal. The user can further increase the power of the shuriken by making it into certain shapes.
