BACKGROUND
Pepper is an outgoing and spunky mechanic that specializes in starship maintenance and emergency repair. Due to the sad state of intergalactic commerce these days and her unwillingness to (literally) sign her life away in a contract for one of the stupidly huge multi-planetary shipping conglomerates, Pepper often finds herself hopping from job to job like a glorified space hobo. This week she's on a tramp freighter out of Cydorr IV, next week it'll be a temp job wielding hull plating on a space station orbiting Firgali, later she'll be hopping through the Qitric Cluster to help set up a series of gas collectors, and after that? Who knows. Pepper lives a nomad's lifestyle because that's just the way the galaxy is these days.

Pepper is a people person and prefers to be surrounded with them. This is unfortunate, because space is a notoriously empty place and Pepper tends to find herself on small ships with tiny crews of less then a dozen people. As a result, she tends to fling herself aggressively at others and can often come across as 'clingy'. The simple truth is that she is emotionally needy and doesn't like to be alone... which she often is because of the nature of the work she does.

However, Pepper's spunky cheerfulness rarely grates on people the wrong way for long, and her outgoing and adventurous attitude wins her plenty of friends in the short term. She's a tomboy, caring more about machines then dresses and more likely to have her face covered in engine grease then makeup. She's not afraid to rough-house with the boys (but would much rather do it with the girls) and can hold her own in a fist fight.

Despite (or perhaps because of) being well adapted to life on board cramped spaceships, there are some self-indulgent things that Pepper has come to adore and actively seek out in her downtime. She has a particular fondness for spicy food (because freeze-dried rations are about as interesting as cardboard, so she over-compensates when she can) and luxuriates in long hot baths when water is plentiful. She has a particular love of motorcycles, which is unfortunate because there's nowhere to ride them on a ship and the expense of shipping them from place to place is outrageous. When she finds a longer-term job, she tends to buy the parts for one and assemble it in the cargo hold as a hobby, selling it at her destination after riding it around for a while.

After several years in space, tramping about, Pepper has yet to give any serious thoughts about 'settling down'. She's become so used to her vagabond lifestyle that she considers 'settling down' to be taking a long-term contract on a shipping vessel. She's way too attached to visiting new places, meeting new people, and discovering new things whenever she can.

Unfortunately, the galaxy is a very dangerous place and humans are rather delicious.
