She's a less moralistic fairy than Tinkerbell, that goody-two-shoes. Zarina looks out for Zarina, and only Zarina. When she first met Captain Prescott and her motley crew, the fairy saw them as bumbling fools. Well, she still sees them as bumbling fools, but having a pirate vessel to travel on has certainly made her life easier. Flying takes energy, after all.
