Princess Vivica Everwood is the heir to the throne of the small kingdom of Ostenshire. At 22 years of age, she is a stunning beauty. She is also impatiently waiting for the day when she will be allowed to rule over the kingdom. Her parents, the king and queen, were devoured more than one year ago by a mysterious assailant who fled to the nearby rival kingdom of Ravenna. The Ravennian rulers granted asylum to the assassin, and so he was never held accountable for his crime, his motivations still unknown to this day. The remains of the beloved king and queen were never even recovered.

Following this heinous act, it was expected that Vivica would ascend to the throne. But to the surprise of all (especially Vivica) the council of elders deemed that Vivica was not yet fit to rule, and so they would act as stewards of the kingdom, ruling in her stead until she was ready. They felt that she was too young and immature, selfish and apathetic to the needs of her would-be subjects. And in truth, she is all of those things, and more. She is also greedy and cruel, rash and impatient. But she is also very smart, making her someone who should not be crossed. She now believes that there is a conspiracy against her, and she is willing and capable of rooting it out. If the council only knew that she had secretly arranged for her parents' assassination, then they might know to be more wary of her...
