Raiden is a kitsune of unusual origin. He's not some divine messanger, he's never guarded a shrine, and he's certainly not some fox that lived a long time. Instead, Raiden is a trickster and a thief, causing trouble wherever he goes and often leaving right before it can find him.
A fire burns within him as well, both literal and figurative. In the figurative sense, Raiden exudes a sort of unwavering optimism about others, often choosing to see and believe the best in them. For himself, his viewpoint is a bit lower.
In the literal sense, though, Raiden has a strong afinity for pyrokinetic abilities among some other magics, to the point where when he's using his abilities he can almost become akin to fire made flesh.
Even without his fire, though, Raiden isn't helpless. Under those clothes his body doesn't exactly scream strength, mostly smooth skin and rather nice hips and ass lending themselves to a more feminine or twink-ish appearance, but strength was never his strong suit anyways. Instead he relies on speed, agility, and flexibility to potentially contortionist levels to evade and out maneuver.
Only knowing his own power, Raiden has no clue what abilities could await a trained kitsune. For now, he simply trains himself.
Raiden did not have the most glamourous life as he was growing up. At the time he was born, his parents were two of many enslaved people in an estate owned by a noble. This noble considered himself a purveyor of fine art, antiques, and rare and unusual races. In his eyes, he was a breeder, a business man. In the eyes of those under him, a better description came in one word. Tyrant. Kitsune were just one of many races that he 'bred' for others.
The old master ruled his house with an iron fist, training and forcing his 'indentured servants' to work in many ways. Those who disobeyed, or even just upset him in any way, were subjected to cruel and unusual punishments. From being denied sleep or food for days, to having scalding water poured over the skin. He relished seeing the fearin the eyes of those under him, almost more than any actual piece of art in his home. Those who angered him the most... well, they were never seen again.
Born on this estate, Raiden was subjected to the same treatment as those who came before. Even growing up he was forced to learn many chores, threatened and injured when he messed up. But something different burned within Raiden, both figuratively and literally. One day, it finally all came to a head. Raiden had been cleaning in the manor when he knocked over an old antique vase. Upon finding out, the old master was enraged, threatening to hang his pelt from the walls, to slice off his tail, or even to eat him alive. In a moment of pure panic, instinct took over, and Raiden grabbed the nearest object, an engraved knife with a gilded hilt.
The rest of the events are a blur of memories, of bloodied blades, of flames erupting around him. By the time he came to, the entire estate was ablaze. Grabbing his few meager belongings, along with some of those from the estate, Raiden used the distraction to flee. Initially his parents ran along behind him, but by the time he was safe he was alone.
Since that day, Raiden has been wandering, scavenging, and thieving. Trouble always seems to follow him, but he's always gotten away. It's only a matter of time before it catches up.
Raiden encountered a mouse by the name of
Souris at a renfaire where he was running a scam as a fortune teller. With instincts and hunger flaring, he swiftly swallowed her down, and in doing so discovered he can at least hold on to souls using his magic, including holding on to hers for a while before it was restored.
- Ornate Dagger: A curved bladed dagger of beautiful design, the crossguard and pomel both seemingly made of gold, or at least plated in it. The design seems like it would be more fit for a display than a weapon.
- Old Tome: A weathered old book of nondescript design. Inside are illustrations and guides displaying certain fighting styles, stealth, training exercises, and different tools. The book declared it was studies of something called the 'Shinobi', not that he knows what that means.
- Grappling hook + rope: An old iron grappling hook and about fifty feet of hemp rope.
- Rations: A supply of long lasting food, mostly dried meats.
- Smoke bombs: A pouch on his belt containing multiple small smoke bombs.
Skills
Even without using magic, Raiden has some decent physical abilities. He is incredibly flexible, almost to contortionist levels, and is self trained in stealth, certain more agile fighting styles, certain tools, and many dirty tricks that would benefit a 'shinobi', even if he doesn't know what that actually means.
Pyrokinesis
Raiden is very adept in controlling and creating fire. While often used for offense, it can also be used for utility in many ways. However, he also has the ability to create a special fire, often light blue in color, through which he can create illusions. The more this fire spreads, the wider he can affect, but the harder it is to maintain and the faster it exhausts him.
Transformations
Raiden has the ability to transform himself in a number of ways. The main three are his three different main forms that being as an anthro, a human, or a feral fox. He can also maintain a halfway state between anthro and human, even able to change which parts are one or the other.
More tricky, however, is his ability to use his abilities to take the forms of other people. These transformations are flawed, though, in that they require a decent amount of focus. If this focus is broken, the transformations and illusions start to unravel, usually starting with the tail. If his tail is grabbed, it forces him straight out of any unusual transformations.
Soul Magic
There's a reason some people call kitsune spirit foxes, after all. This is an ability Raiden does not know much about and will require further investigation. What he does know is that he can sometimes hold on to the souls of prey for a little bit to release or reform them another time. However, this isn't something he does often, and usually doesn't happen without a plot reason.
I know not everyone wants to fight, so here are some easy ways to subdue Raiden:
- Bribery/Offerings: Specifically with foods such as fish, berries, meats, and anything fried. Offer one of these to him, and you'll have him eating out of the palm of your hand.
- Water: When using his fire based abilities, Raiden starts to become similar to fire himself. His hair and tail flicker and move, his eyes may glow, and he may even be able to phase into his illusions for a short bit. However, in this state water quickly burns him and can force him to stop using his abilities to avoid injury.
- Focus: To maintain his transformations, Raiden has to maintain some level of focus. If he is surprised or starts to lose this focus, his transformations will start to fail, often starting with his tail
- Alcohol: Combining the points for bribery and focus, Raiden can be quick to accept alcohol, but is a bit of a lightweight. If you get him drunk, he won't be able to maintain his transformations.
- Smarts: Raiden may have some good wit and instincts, but he can be incredibly dumb at times. He didn't exactly grow up in an educated area, after all.
- Tail: Raiden's tail is typically the first thing to faul in his disguises and illusions, and not only can that give him away but it can also bring an end to that disguise. His tail is a pretty sensitive part of him at times, so grabbing it when he's expecting it to be hidden can break his control of his abilities.
- Ears: Similarly, Raiden's ears are also incredibly sensitive at times, but in a different way. Rub them, scratch them, and he'll practically melt. Though, vague rumors say that it may be possible for him to 'finish' from them alone as well, in the right context.
Raiden is an attempt to translate an old rp character I had into at least a slightly more digestible format. He's an old favorite of mine, and I hope to use him well here.
If he is ever rped in a way that you do not like, or if you feel I need to tone things down a bit in rp, I ask that you let me know. This is for the enjoyment of all parties involved after all, not just me.
If you make any sort of firefox or foxfire jokes upon approach, you will instantly earn 10 points and my attention for having read all this. What can these points be used for? I haven't the slightest idea.
I am not always the type to approach first, especially. If you're interested in doing anything with Raiden, please do say something.
F-List is
here for anyone who wants any extra ideas.
- Raiden's old master was a wealthy man with many connections to powerful people. People who have no moral quandary about having someone taken care of. The dagger Raiden carries was given to the master by one such person, and is known by many others. If it is seen, it could paint a target on his back.
- While Raiden has not seen his parents in quite a long time, it is fairly likely they have survived the fire. Both of them seek to stomp out the corruption that caused their enslavement, with his father seeking to infiltrate corrupt organizations and his mother acting as an informant among rabble-rousers.
- Raiden only knows how to use certain powers of his from his bloodline, powers that come naturaly to him. He does not know much about what Kitsune traditionally are or what they can do, and thus could use a teacher.
- His constant pranks, tricks, and thieving have doubtless upset many merchants and nobles alike. He tries not to stick around long enough to find out, but a quick escape is not always an option.
