Usually you can find Rajan along the coast, near a river, or even a pond. He's drawn to the water like lodestone to iron. Which
isn't to say he never goes ashore. When not actually swimming, Rajan likes to spend his time mingling with people along boardwalks or
in clubs. And if there's a chance of a rave in town then you can bet he's got his tickets. While his instincts might demand he eat the weak
& submissive, Rajan much prefers to be an easy going socialite.
Down by the Bay
Clarovista Island is just one of the larger land masses in a small chain of islands. The waters around are relatively warm and teeming with life.
Local fishers haul in their catches, tourists come for the beaches, and the wharf does a steady business. If you happen to like little seaside
towns then you could do worse.
Rajan lives and works here as a local Marine Biologist. Conservationist, game warden, and teacher all fit into the small collection of hats
he wears. Protecting the ocean is more than just a job. He hails from a long line of guardians tied to the sea. Each member of Rajan's family
has some way of maintaining the balance between the people of society and the natural world. Rajan just does it with pie charts and town
hall meetings. Being a natural born swimmer he tends to go skinny dipping when working in the 'field'. Locals have come to recognise the
beast as both a friendly protector, and sometimes predator.
Down Below
Not a shark, Rajan's a guardian beast. There are some sharklike traits, such as his natural coloring and instinct to devour the weak. His tail fins are horizontal rather than vertical. His mouth carries a set of fangs more befitting a dragon than any fish. Even his long, supple tongue is the wrong shape for a shark. There's other quirks to his biology besides this. All his soft tissue is a light blue color for one thing. For another there's his stomach.
To a Man's Heart...
Rajan's stomach isn't anything like a shark's, or really a human. His esophugus
carries 'guests' down into a dual chambered gut. The first space they pass through is
lined with rough scales and thick muscles. Usually food slides right on by such an intimidating
place into the second stomach chamber below. Here the walls are wrinkled and coated in mucas
to protect the predator from his own hunger. Most digestion takes place in this bottom part of
the stomach. Food is sloshed about as juices trickle and pool. Most prey comment on a
tingling sensation against their exposed bits. It's a bit like being rocked in a hammock, if
that hammock was close fitting, heated like a sauna, and made out of a waterbed.
While someone could safely enjoy a few hours rocking in his second stomach, Rajan's
body has a way of dealing with tougher meals. The lower part of his stomach contracts pushing
his contents back into the rough-walled first chamber. There muscles flex to rub those
rough scales across his food, trying to break it down. It's a lot like being slowly chewed.
Prey find themselves scraped and tumbled when this happens. It's not usually something
a person would want to happen. Rajan seems to have some control over just how aggressive his
stomach is with prey though he insists whatever goes down can't come up. There haven't been
any cases of prey making it back into his mouth so presumably everything followed the natural course.
Private Matter
Clothing is optional for Rajan even in a modest minded crowd. Despite being fully male, the vertical slit between his legs has caused
more than one mammal to ask some straight forward questions. Nevermind pronoun selection. The beast takes it in stride as just part of
living with different species, occasionally offering demonstrations if someone catches his fancy.
