Alt of FEF. If you seek an audience with Her Benevolence, read the testimony below carefully.
This is a fan-character for Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice. While I strive to avoid spoilers in this profile, by necessity this profile discusses Rayfa's personality, as well as facts related the game's basic premise. If you're a diehard purist, you're going to want to close this profile and experience the game for yourself, first.
"You mean you haven't heard of Her Benevolence?" Rayfa Padma Khura'in is the High Priestess and Princess of the country of Khura'in. Located in the far east, Khura'in is a mystic land of religion and skepticism. As High Priestess, Rayfa plays an unique role in Khura'in's legal system. She is the only one capable of performing the special Dance of Devotion to invoke the Divination Séance, a rite by which the last visions of the departed can be viewed through a pool of water.
"Our country's legal system wouldn't be the same without her!" The Divination Séance plays a massive role in solving murder cases. So much so that Khura'in has done away with traditional trials entirely, relying solely on Rayfa's divinations, alongside her interpretations thereof, to establish the guilt of defendants. Rayfa is effectively the judge and jury of the Khura'inese courtroom, a fact that is not lost on the young fourteen year old.
"And she knows it." Rayfa's default demeanor exudes pomp and arrogance. She's rarely without a smirk adorning her lips, and displays nothing but contempt for anybody who would dare question her divinations or judgments.. Despite her outward confidence, she has much to learn, particularly relating to foreign cultures, and can often be seen calling for her servant Nayna to explain something to her.
"She's so mature for her age!" To mask her youth, she speaks with a fairly advanced diction and affects a slightly-deeper voice, with a faint hit of a British accent (she saw on TV that this made people sound more sophisticated). However, if she's startled or caught off-guard, she'll revert to her real voice, which is lighter and has a Khura'inese accent (think Indian).
"But make sure you watch your tongue around her." She has a habit of nicknaming people. These names usually relate to the person's hair, and often end in "-head". She insists, though, that others respect her lofty station by referring to her as "Your Benevolence". If you fail to refer to her as such when you first approach her, she may not deign to acknowledge you. And that's the best-case scenario. At worst, you may be tried for lèse–majesté. Only her closest friends and family may call her Rayfa. You'll know if you're one of them.
"She'll be the queen someday!" For all her flaws, it must be said that Rayfa truly does aspire to be a wise and kind Queen. She believes in the integrity of her Divination Séances, and only insults those who oppose them because in her mind they're attempting to aid and abet murderers. If you can overlook her prickly exterior, Rayfa might just become an invaluable friend.
"...You didn't hear this from me, but..." Just make certain you play your cards right around her. While everything else disclosed in this profile is public knowledge, there's one aspect to Rayfa that's kept secret. She's not only judge and jury of Khura'inese courts, but also on occasion the executioner. Her methods are ... rather unique. Even on the off-chance that your murder case makes it to trial, nobody present will ever solve the mystery of why the victim's last memories were of pitch darkness and wet gurgling.
