Relm was born and raised in the village of Thamasa, having lived there for most of her life. Originally living with her mother, who raised her for the first few years of her life, she was then left under the care of a friend of the family, Strago Magus, who looked after Relm when her mother passed away. Relm had a quiet and easy going life, you wouldn't find anything exciting in such a small village due to it's isolated location. This left Relm little to do other than focus her free time ( which she had plenty of with so little responsibilities ) on practicing her magical abilities and developing a talented gift for art. Things would have continued this way had the Empire not taken an interest in the nearby mountain range and visited Thamasa during their search for a group of rampant Espers, who were taking refuge somewhere within a cave network in a mountain range to the west.
After having been rescued from a burning building by Terra's group and then secretly tagging along with them while they were heading to the Espers' hideout, Relm had got caught up in conflict between the Returners and the Empire. The journey led to discovering Kefka's betrayal of the Emperor and his claiming of the power of the Warring Triad for his own. During the release of unstabilized magic from Kefka disturbing the balance of the Warring Triad, Relm was hit with a blast of magic that cast her through a void between worlds. She was left in a dark, mysterious place made of decaying stellar bodies and ancient sites left floating beside one another, connected by frail bridges made of magical essence. It was also inhabited by creatures stranded within this place which, by the strange effects of this environment, had their powers subtly shifted to allow them to devour others ( no matter what kind of creature they were or what form they took ) in order to survive and Relm was no exception. When she finally managed to locate a way out of this cursed place she found herself within the Nexus, which had a more natural environment like the one she knew, but was seemed to hold the same laws of the mystic void she had traveled from, a place where stronger beings prey upon the weaker ones.
Since Relm had very little connection to anyone outside of the few she knew around the village and with only her Grandfather to look after her ( who really didn't have much experience in raising children ) she grew up with a very independent streak. Since Strago was an adventurer when he was younger and a lot of his old stories had influenced Relm, she also marked with a bold and sharp tongued personality. She's wiser than her age lets on and has enough wits to avoid situations that a young, naive person might get caught up in. The one thing that raises her ire more than anything is dismissing her as 'just a kid'. Such offenses will usually result in her painting a cruel mockery of the one who insulted her, to initiate an assault upon the original. While she originally might have had a strong sense right and wrong along with an obligation to protect those she cared for, her time spent in the wasting void between realms had hardened her, making her a bit more cold and less concerned about the well being of others. Her moods are more mercurial now and her sense of mercy is based more on whimsy than any moral and/or ethical foundations. There is one constant in her outlook though. Due to her limited experience with the Ghestal Empire, she is highly distrustful of those who seem militant or power hungry in nature, making them potential targets above all others.
Relm's powers include her ability to use her artistic skill to draw images that become real, provided she focuses her magic upon allowing its existence to continue. She can use this ability to call upon a creature's special abilities ( though it's usually limited to one type of ability that said creature can perform and she cannot copy the powers of deity level creatures ). She can also use many of the magical spells that come from her world and rarely has trouble studying magical spells from other worlds unless they call upon powers that are the sole domain of a specific race. She can also use her magic to aid her in devouring others, using space-altering techniques on her insides to hold creatures she otherwise couldn't and consume them in a variety of ways, even on beings that would otherwise be far too ephemeral to be held in one's body. There are few limitations on what she can do once she has someone or something inside her, she has even used this ability to store things she cannot carry herself, pulling them from out of her pockets or hat, since regurgitating objects would be far too uncomfortable for her ( on this note, it can be terribly difficult to try and poison her since she can magically alter the state of her insides and redirect the substance to a place where it cannot effect her system ).
