Touhou fanchar played by
Solan. As always, please do not approach for vore; this character is intended for storyline and/or romantic play.
Rin has no official art, though the circle cut above is believed to be of her, but fans have created several well-made interpretations, like
this one.
"Gensokyo certainly has changed... enough, it seems, to forget an old youkai like me..."
Rin Satsuki, the third playable character from Touhou Koumakyou, alongside Reimu and Marisa. Or rather... that is how it originally was. Something happened between concept and reality... and time wore away the girl until all that was left was a brief, forgotten mention in the code.
But who is she? Who was the girl who lay sleeping in those forgotten fragments of computer language, and only now has returned...? That is most easily told in her own words.
"As for what I am exactly, I am of the race called the kirin... though I count myself among the youkai and have chosen to remain on earth among the people of Gensokyo."
Rin is a kirin (also romanized qilin), a mystical being often conflated with the eastern unicorn. Kirin are said to punish the wicked and confer prosperity upon the people. They are often seen alongside sages, and their very presence is believed to be a good omen. The original kirin are said to be deer-like animals, often incorporating characteristics of a dragon, but like many Gensokyo beings, Rin appears more like a young woman than her race's mythical depictions. She does, however, display some kirin-associated talents from time to time, most notably her silver flames and her healing talents.
"I am a healer by trade. Before Eirin and her superior Lunarian medicine appeared, I was often called upon by the people of the village for aid..."
While less sophisticated or advanced than the medicines of the moon that became available when Kaguya and Eirin came out of hiding, Rin has extensive knowledge of herbs and their properties, and is able to cure many illnesses because of it. She has been seen as somewhat of a nurse by many, including Marisa. However, herbs pale in comparison to her other most notable talent...
"Music soothes the savage beast, it is said. In the hands of a true master, it can do far more... calm a racing heart, lull a pounding migraine, quench a blazing fever..."
Rin has never once been depicted without her trademark erhu instrument... and this is why. Her healing abilities are most perfectly applied through her music. It is literally a calming and soothing influence to hear the girl play, though she rarely makes any form of public performance like the Prismriver trio. A more focused, "targeted" piece can serve many healing purposes. Under Rin's care, fevers abate, lesions disappear, and even sickness will ravage someone more slowly, leaving time to understand and treat before it tears the frail human's body apart. Rin's music is not only beautiful, but powerful... in many ways she is a perfect bard.
"Myself? ... I try to keep centered. Rarely does good come out of hasty or frustrated action..."
Rin is a very calm and rational person, only prone to anger under extreme stress. Part of this lies in her music, which is just as effective on its performer, but kirin are serene beings at heart, and Rin is no different. Being forgotten has not made her bitter, only regretful and withdrawn.
"Newborn? Hardly... I have seen the very beginnings of the Hakurei line, my dear. I knew Gensokyo before the Great Border was created... I am far from being a newborn youkai, child."
Rin has a fairly long history as well, despite few besides her remembering it. She is a number of centuries old, and as she says she is old enough to remember Gensokyo as it was before the formation of the Hakurei Border. Throughout this time, before people began to forget her, she had been the ally of humans, protecting the village alongside Keine, although unlike the half-beast she has had some trouble at times earning the humans' trust. She has also known each and every Hakurei maiden... some fondly, others with anger and even one with fear, depending on their attitude towards her and willingness to accept her help. Of course, as she began to fade from memories, she retreated into her own home, leaving the village in Keine's hands as she returned to her quiet life.
And now? What quirk of fate has brought her out? Was she perhaps simply remaining hidden all this time? Perhaps she was held captive in the mansion whose game she was supposed to star in? Or, has Yukari been fooling around again, this time with the border of concept and reality? Well... that's really for her to say or not say, now isn't it?
