Rod here is an odd sort. Not just for the clothes he prefers. nor for that little manic gleam in his eye. Nor that wild grin. Those are all symptoms, not causes. You see, Roderick is a madboy.

Thats the term for what he is, you see. Not a definition. He chose to go with a popular webcomic's description because it fit so damned perfectly. A madboy, a Spark, is a person with an innate grasp of mad scientist-type devices and processes. Chemistry, physics, the works. And Rod is a STRONG Spark. Mad, yes. Brilliant, yes. Something in his head just ticks differently, and it allows him to do all kinds of things.

Here it is spelled out. Rod is weird. He's always got gloves, goggles, and tools with him. He's ALSO always got something on his mind. Stress, paranoia, and whatever else is bugging him makes him tense, and twitchy. Like every other mad genius, he has his release. Making stuff, or playing his violin (rather well at that) are both things that will help him relax. And when he works, he always hums a little tune....
