[Symbiotic Pokemon Ligation Institute of Creation and Erudition]

Deep within the Relic Forest of the Orre region is a Pokemon organization called S.P.L.I.C.E. Only customers and individuals of interest know of its location and existence. Although advertised as a facility that “humanely” experiments, researches and breeds unique Pokemon, more shady things are going on behind the facade. Creating Splices, hybrid fused Pokemon experiments, is the facility’s main venture. Although the facility generates a modest profit, their methods are morally bankrupt. Pokemon can be bred, born as test tube babies, forcibly injected with DNA, literally fused together, or conceived through a myriad of other unethical means. Many of the Pokemon used are captured and taken from the wild. Among the Splices is a hierarchy of successful elite to failed experiments, all of which are run through endless training and testing. The future is grim for Splices at the bottom of the barrel. But change may be stirring.

About Splices:

Splices are a mix of two or more Pokemon, whether through injected DNA, breeding, fusing, developing in test tubes, cloning, etc. Can be a hit or miss if it results in a stable or unstable Pokemon. Many factors contribute to making the Splice switch between stable and unstable during the course of its life: evolving can help or hinder, DNA injections can fix it or make it worse, etc. Splices are referred to as “its” by the scientists. She/he/they/etc. would only be used if the human was attached, the Splice was their lab partner, etc. Staff also refer to Splices by either their acronym or experiment number. Splices themselves can refer to each other by their acronyms, or self-given nicknames. Splices can still only have two types total, but they can have moves of other types. If Pokemon is Electric type, and is fused with a Fire and Dark type, the typing may be Electric/Fire type, but the Pokemon could also still have a Dark move. Splices cannot be kept inside regular PokeBalls. Since they’re fusions, regular PokeBalls would register it as two or more Pokemon trying to be put inside one PokeBall, and it would fail. This is why most experiments are left in cells instead. Experimental PokeBalls developed for containing Splices is under development.

Description of The Lab:

From the outside, the facility appears to be something of a farm or zoo. Pokemon kept anywhere near the surface or outside are only ever the best looking and most successful. When potential investors and customers visit, they are guided through a restrictive tour, where they only see the outside and a select portion of the surface floor. The facility has a surface floor, and many underground floors. The surface floor contains offices and Luxury Wards. Underground floors are where the more shady practices happen, and the further down you go, the worse it gets. Although making Splice fusion experiments is the facility’s primary focus, other ventures are taken too, such as capturing shiny Pokemon and breeding rare Pokemon. Their budgeting primarily comes from: -Investors -Selling Successful Splices, commissioned and created for multiple purposes: Designer household pets, powerful Pokemon, etc. -Selling captured Shiny and rare Pokemon

Lab Hierarchy:

Founder -

The One True Leader, all big decisions must make it through them

Lab Director -

Basically a general manager who gives out tasks/orders/etc. at the beginning of the day, probably deals with a lot of paperwork as well

Head Scientists -

Leaders of specific squads, like how you get group projects in school and someone is the voice of reason

Scientists -

Underlings in a sense, however they still hold a decent amount of power

Human Assistants -

Direct assistants to scientists, trusted with important information. Usually people that have worked there for awhile, but aren't capable of doing any actual experiments on their own.

Other -

Janitors, maybe something like cooks (make food for the splices), people in other departments (save the leaders of said department), etc.

Interns -

Students, usually young, that are offered experience in exchange for help at the company. They are not paid and often are told to do menial things, not usually partaking in actual, big experiments. Might help with smaller ones or just watch. Can swing either way with not caring about the reality of SPLICE or despise everything about accepting this internship.

Splice Assistants -

Splices made specifically to assist scientists (or others, maybe a janitor gets one if they ask nicely), at the very bottom due to being quite disposable. No one's gonna notice a fusion dying like they'd notice a human.

Splice Statuses:

Rookie

Splices that were recently created, but it has not been decided if they are successful or not. At this stage, they are trained and evaluated for their mental and/or physical prowess. Sometimes they are mentored by a fully successful experiment, rather than humans. If a Splice fails their evaluation, they are classed as a failure.

Failure

Splices who failed their initial evaluation tests. This can be due to either physical deficiencies or the inability to take orders. Failed experiments are not killed off. Rather, they are kept in poorly maintained cells for further, crueler testing/DNA splicing. Failures are typically kept only to be used as lab rats for risky and dangerous experiments. Or sometimes, if a failure is an interesting specimen, they are simply kept alive to be studied, for future reference.

Rogue

(Failure subcategory) A Splice that actively disobeys orders out of malice towards the facility. A rogue often hides in the crevices of the building (like the air vents and inside the walls), going out of their way to avoid capture. Captured rogues are to be kept in isolated rooms separate from the other failures to prevent them from another breakout.

Success

Splices are often created for a specific purpose. If it has passed its evaluation, then it is a successful experiment that can be sent off to fulfill its specific purpose. Some successes are sold off to private customers, but others serve and protect the facility. Often, successful Splices will patrol and guard areas like the failures' cell room, or serve as lab or medical assistants.

Elite

(Success subcategory) An important Splice that is necessary to the infrastructure of the building. If this Splice becomes compromised, another must be created/trained as the replacement.

Emergency Lockdown

These are the Splices that go horribly wrong... or horribly right. They would be put down if possible, but the scientists aren't sure how to, and sometimes, they're just scared to try. Instead, they are kept locked away to prevent the destruction of the building, and maybe even the entire world...

Successful Pokemon Types/Roles:

Guard

Successful Pokemon who are tasked with patrolling and guarding cells in the many Wards. They issue out discipline and ensure Splices aren’t causing trouble. Many are harsh and cruel to Failures. However, they would get in trouble for harming other Successful or Luxury Splices, and they generally don’t. Guards are also not allowed to kill Failures, as they’re still expensive to make. Killing a failure would only be allowed if they were out of control or as an act of self defense.

Hunter

One of the few groups of experiments that has any form of an opportunity to leave the facility. Their main goal is to capture shiny Pokemon for DNA samples/selling, or rare Pokemon to use as a base for fusion. S.P.L.I.C.E. always has a very close eye kept on them, and often these Pokemon will be very strictly trained to stay close to their trainer or human partner. Their job typically either includes befriending Pokemon to lure them in, hypnotizing them in order to capture them, battling and defeating, or kidnapping.

Stealth

One of the other field agent roles. While Hunter Splices capture Pokemon, Stealth Splices are trained instead to steal objects. They are nimble and able to infiltrate homes and buildings to steal items and PokeBalls with Pokemon inside them. They aren’t trained to battle, and will likely flee a confrontation instead of fighting.

Assistant

Any Splice or Pokemon that’s an assistant/partner to a human and is under their care. They aren’t kept in cells, and are instead either kept in specially made PokeBalls, or are always by the human’s side and under their maintenance.

Variant

Variants are typically made by modifying the DNA of the base Pokemon, often to add organic pieces to the Pokemon for aesthetic value. This may include adding in DNA from a Sylveon to add on ribbons, or it often involves changing a Grass Type Pokemon in order for it to grow certain types of flowers on its body.

Luxury/Designer

Some Splice breeds are made specifically to be sold as docile, household/designer pets. Have a more pampered lifestyle than other Splices. Most are oblivious to the horrible conditions of the rest of S.P.L.I.C.E., and think their lifestyle is normal.

============================================================================================

Locations in the labs:

Wards

Wards are areas where Pokemon are stored.

Rookie / Successful Ward

Splices that are deemed "successful" are housed here, as well as Splices currently under evaluation. Generally, these splices will be put in a cell that will keep them the healthiest (for example, a water Pokemon may be put in a cell that’s more similar to a fish tank). However, even in the successful ward, cells aren’t too luxurious. They’re often still too small, and can be cold, as most of S.P.L.I.C.E.’s funds are spent on the experiments themselves. However, successful Splices get other benefits that keep them from being upset or thinking too critically about their conditions: Successes aren’t treated poorly by the guard Pokemon. Many of them are friends. They get to leave their cells more often. The scientists want to maintain good health for the successful experiments, therefore they’re let out for routine exercise. Perhaps during these times, successes are allowed to hang around and talk with other Pokemon too. For some, they’re so active during the day, the only time they spend in their cells is when they sleep. Most successes are too preoccupied with what their purpose is to be idle. They generally get more 1 on 1 time with the scientists. Each scientist will have a handful of experiments they’re specifically working on, and will work closely with them to run tests and examine them. Each scientist treats their Splices differently. Some might be kind enough to where the Splice will form a bond with them, like a trainer. Hopefully, that Splice doesn’t get their heart broken... Once a fusion is marked successful, they typically don’t be used for any further dangerous or risky experiments.

Failure Ward

Splices that are deemed "failures" are tossed here. The condition of the cells here are much worse than those in the Successful Ward. The only time a modicum of budget is invested is when a failure is too volatile to be kept in a simple cell, and it needs to be reinforced (e.g. if a Splice leaks acid, it would need special cell bars that wouldn’t melt) Failed Splices get hit the hardest when it comes to budget cuts. Many are underfed. The health and well-being of Failures isn’t necessary to maintain, so they don’t get exercise routines or as close of a personal monitoring. The only times they’re allowed to leave their cells are when necessary, such as testing.

Shiny Ward

Splice has a shiny bay of sorts. While they mainly focus on fusing Pokemon, anything to generate profit is encouraged since fusing Pokemon is expensive. They steal shiny Pokemon out of the wild and keep them in a holding area similar to successes. Shiny Pokemon DNA is used in fusions on very rare occasions, but only for improving possible camouflage or maybe testing to see how it would mingle with normal DNA. Shinies, however, are never used as a "base" for fusion, since the chance of botching the fusion is too high and they'd be losing a profit in the process.

Specialized/”Luxury” Wards

“Luxurious” by S.P.L.I.C.E. standards, at least - the best it gets. There are some Splice breeds that are made specifically to be sold as docile, household/designer pets. It is important to keep them happy, emotionally/physically well, and friendly with humans so they will easily transition into a home lifestyle. Instead of individual cells, they are kept together in groups, so they can be socially active. They are also let outside regularly.

Lockdown Ward

Some Splices are too dangerous to put down and must be contained in a secret ward hidden in the darkest pits of the building. Each room is specially made to contain each Splice, and there are multiple levels of security doors that keep them from reaching the surface levels and committing mass destruction.

Breeding area

Where suitable breeding partners are thrown together. Ditto are typically only used in the case of breeding for work on Variants. For fusions, SPLICE would try to use two purebred Pokemon in order to keep the DNA "pure". Once the egg is laid, it will be taken for whatever its purpose is, or left with the parent if that was the intention. If a pregnancy between experiments happens that was not planned by the scientists, the egg will be immediately confiscated by scientists upon being laid. The hatched Pokemon will be used as a lab rat, or for whatever the scientists can find it useful for.

Indoor Rooms

Rooms inside of S.P.L.I.C.E. facilities.

Testing Chambers

Rooms, chambers and auditoriums where experiments take place. Many different testing rooms are built and continually re-purposed for specific purposes, such as simulating outdoor environments.

MOTHER Room

A small room where MOTHER stands, plugged in to distribute electricity throughout the building. MOTHER is not only a generator, but also a security system, so some monitors are in the room for humans to review. Splices are not allowed inside, and only highly ranked humans can usually enter it. However, you might be allowed inside if MOTHER is biased...

Euthanasia room

A sickening room where sick and/or old splices are taken, whether they be failure or success. Contains a lot of needles and various other frightening equipment. This room is usually off limits to anyone that doesn't work in the building. There are three main methods of euthanasia; decapitation by MEDIC (MEDIC_) and injection, which are used for singular splices, or gassing, which would be used to take out multiple, likely sick individuals.

Recycling Department

The Recycling Department, run by the Overseer of Fusion Recycling, focuses heavily on making the most of available resources in the facility. They make most of the raw products seen around the facility, such as foods for the failures’ ward, fertilizers for the play yard, nutritional supplements for successes, and soft stuffing for pillows. Pokemon are only allowed into the recycling department if they work there, or if they can provide material for production.

Miscellaneous Rooms

There are an indefinite number of other miscellaneous rooms that would be relevant to a facility like this, such as maintenance rooms, lounges, offices, labs, DNA sample storage, general storage rooms, offices, broom closets, etc.

Air Vents

Used by failed/rogue Splices and Joltik to travel around.

============================================================================================

Outdoor Area

Areas outside of the facility. Most Pokemon who are let outside have either shock collars or tracking chips.

Electric Fences

There is a large electric fence that encompasses the entire area. There are other smaller outdoor sections enclosed by fences as well. The fences are designed discreetly, and don’t look threatening or imposing, to avoid intimidating investors and customers. However, Splices know that they’ll be knocked unconscious upon touch.

Aviaries

There are enclosed Aviary locations used for outdoor training.

Play Area

A fenced in area for Splices to go outside and play, exercise and socialize. Typically only Luxury Splices get to spend time here.

Greenhouse

A greenhouse used for multiple purposes, such as Splices that need sunlight, growing things for experiments, etc. The glass is tinted, and nobody can see in or out of the glass.

Zoo

A select number of some of the best successful Splices are kept here to show off.

Experiment Numbering System

From reading the label, you can tell exactly what an experiment is.

E-001-025-A3

This is a regular Splice experiment that’s a Bulbasaur/Pikachu fusion created by DNA injection onto a base Pokemon. This is the third attempt at creating this experiment.

[E] - Intended Purpose - the intended purpose for which the experiment was made.

[001-015] - The Pokedex numbers of the Pokemon involved in the experiment. They are always listed in numerical order.

[A] - Creation Method - method in which the experiment was created.

[3] - The number of attempts to create this experiment. Say the previous two died or were failures - this is the third attempt at creating this experiment.

Intended Purpose

E - Experiment (If the experiment doesn’t have any other specific purpose)

C - Commissioned (If the Splice is specifically commissioned by a client. No matter what the purpose of the client's commission is [luxury, fighting Pokemon, assistant, etc.], the splice will still use C in its label since it's commissioned.)

H - Hunter

V - Variant

L - Luxury

S - Stealth

G - Guard

A - Assistant

There may be other NPC exclusive labels (such as MS for Mother System)

Creation Methods

A - DNA Injection onto base Pokemon

B - Fusing two sentient Pokemon together

C - Bred

D - Clone/Test tube

E - Other

Employee ID number system

Pretty much everything in SPLICE has a number, employees included. Employee IDs consist of two parts; the position they have and the number they are. The number portion is a six digit number that represents when they were hired, not as a date, but as a piece of SPLICE.

Complete ID example: S-100198

Position examples:

S - Scientist

I - Intern

HA - Human Assistant

J - Janitor

Joltik

Many Joltik run loose throughout the facility. They don’t get in the way of daily operations, and would be expensive to try and exterminate, so staff leaves them be. They’re typically found in the air vents, and can help send messages between Splices
