Satsuma

"Did you really just call me a dirty raccoon?"

You know the story. A hidden ninja clan deep in the mountains. Ancient arts perfected and passed down from generation to generation. A secret life of rigorous training and sacrifice.

Yeah, Satsuma had enough of that.

It's not that she didn't take to her training well as a child. Quite the opposite. She excelled in all forms of ninjutso, dedicating herself with a level of fervor beyond her classmates. She knows all the mantra and has mastered the mudra. Wrestling? She was the best, outshining even the boys her age. She learned the arts of disguise, seduction, and stealth, all staples of a proper kunoichi.

So what happened?

Well, she got bored. Eventually the old men had nothing left to teach her. She was expected to serve their local lord but the talents of her clan were rarely called upon. Her parents demanded that she marry and have children to continue the family legacy. A suitor was chosen. A foolish boy Satsumo had grown up with and always bested in their training; a poor match in her mind regardless of the fortune teller's approval. When he tried to grope her in advance of their union she decided she'd had enough and overpowered the boy with ease. Then, to really teach him a lesson, she ate him. The elders didn't take well to the news and stubbornly selected another suitor, but by this point Satsumo had other plans for her life. She yearned for a true challenge, to put her years of training to the test. She left that night and hasn't been back since.

There were attempts made to convince her to return, but those fell on deaf ears. Failing that, agents were sent to retrieve her by force. They failed - some returned to the village in shame, others never returned at all.

Satsuma doesn't take herself or life in general too seriously these days. The rules of her village were ridiculously strict, everything treated with the utmost seriousness and presented in terms of life or death. She was taught to follow the rules of her clan and to avoid shaming her village. This had the opposite effect on Satsuma. If everything demands perfection what is really so important? Yes, she knows that defeat means death which really sucks, but she's not going to loose. There is one thing she treats with deadly seriousness, however: yōkai. Her clan's origins date back to the fall of a noble house at the hands of these evil spirits. For hundreds of years they have perfected their techniques in dealing with the supernatural and have often been called into service by their new masters to exterminate such threats. Satsuma will not tolerate ghosts, demons, oni or any other similar being she perceives as a danger to the common folk. She boasts an impressive array of specialized jutsu for dealing with any yōkai she might encounter, leveling the playing field against otherwise impossible foes.

So what does she do now? She fights! Traveling from town to town, Satsuma uses her martial prowess to earn a living however she can. She has taken up bodyguarding work, entered martial arts contests, and even accepted a few shady contracts when lacking other work. Someday she'd like to find a master worthy of her service, but until then she enjoys a life free of obligation. She's found the world to be a whole lot more interesting than she was led to believe and now enjoys meeting all sorts of new people. And sometimes beating them up, or worse.

Satsuma loves to fight. Her preference is unarmed combat as she loves to grapple and prove her physical dominance over any challengers. She's a lot stronger than you'd expect for a girl her size, her already impressive demihuman physiology enhanced by years of wearing training weights. She's also skilled with a variety weapons, should they be needed, although she doesn't typically carry any. Satsuma is extremely competitive in most regards and isn't likely to turn down a challenge, be it a wrestling match, arm wrestling, drinking or eating contest. Think you're better than her? Prove it!

She is not without her vices. For one, her appetite. Her body uses a lot of energy and requires a significant intake of daily calories! She's also a sucker for any type of gambling or game of chance. She'll mostly honor any bet she makes due to her personal code of honor. And then there's her fondness for drink. This gets her into more trouble than anything else, really. She tends to do stupid things when she's drunk. This also leads to trouble for other people... be careful not to look too tasty around an inebriated tanuki!

Satsuma is not as large a girl as some of the beast-kin, but she is quite thick. The tanuki tribe are a small people in general, making them ideal for stealth, and Satsuma is actually on the tall side being 5'7. She's put on a fair bit of weight during her travels, no longer possessing the gymnast-esque figure she left her village with. Thankfully, it hasn't slowed her down much. Her proudest feature is her big, round butt which she proudly shows off with a habitual lack of pants. Not to say that she's lacking in other areas! She's aware that her gently pointed ears and bushy tail make her look cute to humans. It's okay to compliment her on those, but you'd better be ready for a fight if you touch without her permission.

Oh, and no, she can't turn into a statue.
