Savar
"Dragons are not meant to be on leashes."
And Savar was likely right when he often repeats that statement. However, it does nothing to change his centuries long predicament. He was owed a boon from a rather daresay 'ditzy' deity, and the outcome should have been expected. She had every good intention with granting his request, but would not listen to reason ( or the specifications ) of his request in the slightest. She took his demand and ran with it as her own, leading him to the plight he lives to this day.
He is cursed with obedience to the woman that obtains the ring attached to his collar. Now, as glorious of a prize as that might sound, he did manage to sneak in some caveats with the goddess that 'cursed' him with this charm. First and foremost, just owning the ring isn't enough. One has to pledge to love the dragon. That was the goddess idea, his was to amend it into having a time limit. If he did not end up loving her by the time the ring's limitations fades, then he is free from its burden.
Noticed that second caveat in there, did you? The ring has a limitation of uses. Each request made upon Savar while wearing the ring, weakens its magical hold over him. Gradually, he'll start to resist. In time, outright ignore it's effects. As one can understand, it is in one's best interests to not demand things of Savar and truly endear yourself to him. He is, after all, looking for love! Always that chance!
The third and last effect of the ring is actually two effects combined. Longevity of the wearer and a growing compulsion to do the dragon's bidding should she stall/delay at appealing to him. Savar made no subterfuge with the goddess over this one. It was his addition for playfulnes, should he end up getting bored with a lackluster ringbearer. All up until the point he likely devours her, that is. What? He's a dragon. What did you think he did with women he doesn't love?
So to those that are sincere and dedicated, he offers the equally sincere vow of his fidelity and companionship. To those that abuse the power of the ring, bide their time until he can manage to shake off its power and take his frustrations upon the selfish woman. The lesson remains, a dragon cannot be forcibly controlled but can certainly be swayed.
