Miss Akagi Sawara is a dedicated maid, or atleast she'd like to be. True she is gentle and kind hearted, a wonder at cooking and house cleaning, skilled at sewing and darning, and a bargain hunter when it comes to shopping. Inspite of all that however, this would be maid has one problem: she's a Cephalotaur.

Cephalotaurs are demi-humans of a tauric nature, specifically with traits of cephalopods like the squid, cuttlefish, nautilus, and octopus. Ms. Sawara of the Terran variety of cephalotaurs, meaning land-based; however this is a bit of a misnomer as her species is actually semi-aquatic. Their ancestry from various ocean going cephalopods have left them with various traits that both help and hinder members of this species. Having both lungs and gills, Ms. Sawara is at home both on land and in the water; though it must be said, she is far more agile and gracefull in the water than on land. Her gills run the length of her back between her shoulder blades and spine. Cephalopods are also known for their many arms, their abilities to change colors rapidly, and their exceptional eyesight. So to, these traits are born to Ms. Sawara's species. Her entire body, except for between the suckers on her tentacles, is covered in chromataphors, iridophores, and leucophores. These allow her skin and flesh to change colors and reflectivity, even producing patterns sometimes. She can do this on demand but the ability also exhibits itself subconciously, displaying the maid's emotions and state of mind on her her body, very often without her realizing it. Ms. Sawara's eyesight is rather extraordinary, her eyes being somewhat larger than most human's; she clinically has 60/20 vision in both eyes allowing her to see much farther and with far greater clarity than the average human. It should be noted that Ms. Sawara's species has evolved to possess 12 tentacles all about 10ft in length, males do have an additional 4ft tentacle, but it is only used for mating purposes.

Terran Cephalotaurs don't have it all that easy though. In the water, cephalotaurs can survive temperatures ranging from -21F - 107F(-29.4C - 41.7C) without suffering injury. On land, things are very different, a cephalotaur's skin is very sensitive and prone to severe drying. This drying can cause severe cracking, bleeding, and lead to infection; not mention being very painful. With this in consideration, Terran Cephalotaurs prefer environments with 50%+ humidity, and temperatures ranging from 40F - 82F (4.4C - 27.8C) Outside of those conditions on land, a Cephalotaur will begin to sweat and excrete a mucus from pores in their skin. This mucous helps to prevent their skin from dry, keeps them cool in warmer temperatures, and provides a weak insulation to keep them warm in colder temperatures; however it is of little use once the air drops below freezing. Cephalotaurs are only able to produce this mucous while they are sufficently hydrated; and so they tend to drink large quantities of fluids and also like to swim or submerge themselves in water to absorb moisture through their skin.

Anatomically, there are a few things of note to be considered in regards to Cephalotaurs. As shown in the photo above is the tripathid opening. This is a structure particular to female cephalotaurs only. The various tendrils and the long or for stimulating male cephalotaurs during mating. Extending into the female's body is the tripathid channel, typically 1ft long the channel ends in three branches each sealed by a muscular valve when not in use. During mating, the male inserts his additional 4ft tentacle, called a hectocotylus, which autotomises (self severs) during orgasm. The detached limb in then drawn up through the tripathid channel and through the middle branch into the females uterus. The hectocotylus is a minimally functional arm filled with a large reserve of sperm; once inside the womb, it spasms and contracts, releasing its cargo and is then ejected from the uterus and back into the tripathid channel where it slips into the lower branch which leads to the stomach. The upper branch of the tripathid channel is further divided into two more channels. One which leads to the female Cephalotaur's ink sac, and the other extending up and around other organs all the way to the gills. This allows water to be taken in by the gills to be squirt out through the tripathid channel and opening to provide a kind of jet propulsion, similar to the siphon of an octopus or squid. In the water, a Cephalotaur's ink disperses into a thick black cloud, confusing and blinding foes while the female escapes; on land the ink can squirt up to a distance of 20 feet with a fair amount of acuracy. Without water to dilute it, the ink has the consistency of a thick syrup and an odor similar to putrid rotting flesh. The skeletal structure of a Cephalotaur exist only from the waist on up and consist of the skull, jaw, and vertabrate column. All of the other "bones" are not really bones at all but actually very dense, stiff cartilage. The only other hard organ in the body of a Cephalotaur is their beak, located centrally on their underside. The beak is black in color, sharp enough to cleave through bone with ease, and hard enough to pierce through steel an inch thick. The lower half of the beak has a hollow ridge through which venom can be injected into prey or foes. The venom is a powerful neurotoxin, the primary symptoms of which are loss of motor control and eventual paralysis. In creatures the size of an average adult human male or smaller, there is a danger lung paralysis, cardiac arrest, and even death from envenomation alone. Larger creatures find their movement slowled greatly and intense difficulty breathing. It's a fast acting venom, causing death in the average human in as little as four minutes, larger creatures will experience the effects for nearly twenty minutes; allowing the cephalotaur to either escape of defeat its foe. It should be noted that a cephalotaur's suction cups are covered in chemoreceptors allowing it to taste whatever it touches with them.

Cephalotaurs are effective predators. With their lower bodies consisting almost entirely of muscle, Cephalotaurs ar incredibly strong for their size and have been known to take down creatures up to three times their own size with the incredible strength of their tentacles. "Strong man" feats, such as bending a barbell or steel rod in half are of no challenge to the Cephalotaurs well muscled limbs. Able to crush or pry open even the shell of the mighty giant clam. A cephalotaur' favorite foods are fish, shellfish such as crab and lobster, and mollusks such as clams, mussles, and oysters. They have also been known to feed off of sharks as well. On land, terran cephalotaurs are typically opportunistic hunters; feeding on whatever they can catch while avoiding carrion. While certainly capable climbers, they are much more at home on the ground and avoid scaling rock faces and trees unless to escape a threat or chase prey out of desperation. On land they will use their ink to mark foes and prey alike, generally aiming for the eyes. If the creature is a threat, the inks putrid smell alerts all wildlife nearby to the creatures presence, generally driving all other creatures away. If the marked victem is a prey creature, the scent generally discourages other predators from pursing the cephalotaur's intended meal and allows the hunter to track said prey. These creatures will also use their color changing abilites as camoflage to both hide from other predators and stalk their prey, or at closer ranges to confuse and mesmerize their intended meal with dazzling colors and patterns moving across their flesh. Smaller, softer prey are generally taken through the tripathid channel by females and then to the stomach; while larger, more hard bodied prey like turtles or even humanoids in body armor are generally fed through the beak. Large, soft bodied prey are fed through the beak whole if possible. Also note that when in danger, as a last ditch effort, a Cephalotaur can autotomize or self-severe their limbs to escape danger. The lost tentacles will eventually regenerate over time.

Recently, Cephalotaurs have increasingly found themselves a bit lower on the food chain than they are normally used to. Japan, China, and Thailand have seen several books published in recent years regarding the nutritional value of Cephalotaur meat and products, as well as a number of recipe books for both cooking and sushi. Cephalotaur ink has become a delicacy once combined with flour and eggs and made into a sort noodle, similar to squid ink pasta. Once dried or cooked, the ink loses its offensive odor; the pasta aquires a somewhat gummi texture after boiling and tastes like coffee-flavored caramel. The suction cups, while having a very chewy texture after cooking are a staple in soups and broths and have a flavor similar wine-braised beef. The actual flesh of the tentacles are often chopped and stirfried, having a texture similar to kalimari and a flavor remniscent to buttered lobster. Their beaks are often taken as trophies or after having designs of artwork carved into them are sold as souveniers to tourists. While not easy to take down, their meat is worth its weight in silver and a full ink sac worth nearly three times its weight in gold on the black markets.

Miss Akagi Sawara is actually a rather gentle soul, as befitting her station as a maid. Her uniform is made from waterproof, stain resistant nylon-polymer fibers to prevent her sweating and ruining the clothes. During cleaning, she has large sleeves which fit over her tentacles made of high grade rubber and lined with absorbant tericloth to soak up her mucous sweat and prevent her from leaving stains on carpets and a trail of slime on those uncomfortable days. Ms. Sawara is a reluctant predator, often feeling guilty about her more intelligent of meals; though as a point of professional courtasy, her contractors / employers and co-workers are decidely off the menu. Off duty, Ms. Sawara can often been seen in a conservative dress or skirt and blouse, along with a pastel colored wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun out of her eyes. She tends to carry a rather tote bag with her, usually containing common girly necessities along with a cell phone, several pens, ledger, calendar, two beach towels, and lots of paper towels if she starts to get hot and begins leaving a trail.
