Of the sapient species in the galaxy the Oni species is quite the interesting one. They are much larger than most races and are primarily meat eaters. They also have no qualms about eating other smaller sapient races and do so frequently. Their society is comprised of various powerful crime families that intermarry and fight for control of the galaxy’s underground. Their style and function are similar to those of the Yakuza families of ancient Earth. Saya Onishi is the third princess born to the Onishi crime family. As the third daughter she was not beholden to the responsibilities that plagued her elder sisters. Whereas the first and second daughter were groomed into more courtly women, Saya was allowed to forage her own path. With little outside interference it soon became clear that the girl was much more suited to, shall we say… “direct” tasks compared to many of her sisters. The tomboy often found in the family estate’s dojos rather than its tea rooms. By the age of ten she was already an accomplished swordswoman and could best boys five years her senior in combat. This prodigal nature of hers was not lost on the family head, and soon she was provided with many of the family’s best masters as tutors. Over time the girl gained a passive mastery of many of the Onishi style techniques, and upon reaching adulthood Saya was presented both a unit and an officer rank in the Onishi family. Her duties now not only that of a princess, but also those of an enforcer. With this new power in hand, she’d soon gain both prestige and infamy. The Oni woman rising to oversee vast areas of Onishi space and the questionable activities that were performed within them. If a merchant group needed reminding of their payments, she’d be that reminder. If a target had become a serious thorn in the family’s side, she’d “eliminate” them. If an important package needed a bit more forceful of an escort, she’d provide the force. It was a rough and tumble life, but one that suited her well. One would think this would leave her devoid of any and all suitors, however this was far from the case. Though not very effeminate in looks or disposition there was a certain beauty that still cut through. This innate beauty along with her nature as a princess resulted in droves of suitors seeking her hand. Sick of this headache interfering with her work Saya made it a rule that she’d only marry the man who bested her in combat. Needless to say, this cut down on the marriage applications immensely. Those few who now came for her hand were also the cream of the crop, and much more so a challenge than before. So really it was a win win for the young Oni woman. Now 59-0 in her favor for these bouts she was quite confident in retaining her single status for years to come, and once again begun to focus in on her work.
