Backstory

Shadow originally was a normal human, just living his life as normally as he could. Until he got home one day, and that’s when everything began to fall apart. As he walked through the door, he felt a sharp pain in his neck, before he fell over, unconscious. When he came to, he instinctively began looking around, trying to determine where he was. He saw medical equipment around him, noticing that his arms and legs were tied up. As he looked around, a man came in, whom Shadow instantly recognized as his father. Soon enough, he began yelling at his father, demanding an explanation. His father did not respond, instead injecting something into his son’s arm. This went on for weeks, then months. He went through surgeries every day, almost always tied up, except for the occasional time they would let him roam around the room. This went on until one day, his father made a single mistake.

He left a small blade in the room, just barely in Shadow’s reach. Soon enough, he had a plan. He would cut the binds just enough to tear with his own strength and wait until his father was in the room. He could take the keycard and run. Just run and not look back. The next day, his father came in, prepared for the surgery. Shadow immediately lunged at his father, slamming a fist into his face. As his father laid on the ground in shock, Shadow grabbed the card.

By this point, the experiments have caused him to change. He was no longer a pure human, his body infused with darkness, his dna mixed with that of a wolf. His was the first, and only of his kind that he knew of, and couldn’t control his power. He could hide it without a problem, but controlling the powers was a different story. By the time anyone else found his father’s unconscious body, he was already running out the door. A alarm blared throughout the facility, but it was too late. He was already gone, now free from the place he called home for the past several months.

That is, until he was found by another organization, known as Suriv. There, they didn’t perform surgery on him, instead experimenting on his body’s reaction to certain elements. They put Shadow through dozens of experiments, making him interact with radioactive materials, consume concoctions of many liquids, abd take many more shots. The amount his strength grew was immense, but uncontrollable.

It wasn’t long however, before a certain entity took an interest in Shadow’s power. It was roaming each reality, looking for power to steal until it’s host body was destroyed, leaving it as a ghost-like entity, floating around for a new body. One day, it came to Shadow with an offer. It would make him stronger, make these new experiments part of a separate form, make him a being of immense power, one that could rival that of a god, but in return, Shadow had to let it become one with him, let it control the body when he was in that form.

Shadow thought about it, it would be an opportunity to escape from the facility, a way to be free, until the final part of the offer came in. The entity required Shadow to let it kill whenever it took control, let it steal power from anyone or anything it attacked. Shadow almost broke completely. He didn’t want to by responsible for any deaths, but he wanted to be free. Reluctantly, Shadow accepted, his soul and the entity’s fusing, becoming one. Over the next few weeks, they began to plan their escape, and soon, they had a plan. Two weeks passed, and then they put it into motion. The following logs are all that were recovered from the wreckage.

“Experiment #7182 appears to be in a stable condition. All we must do is verify the safety levels. Until then we’ll have to keep a close eye on it. The following includes details about the creature that make it stand out; hyper-regeneration, high mobility and strength, heightened senses, heightened shadow manipulation, possibly extreme aggression towards other creatures, high amount of remnant, possible teleportation. There is also a noticeable absence of any organs whatsoever, possibly meaning this being doesn’t or cannot eat or reproduce. It appears that it also has a tendency to behave like feral creature, despite originally being a human.” [END TAPE]

Experiment #7182 Log: Day of the Containment Breach
Officer Jack Clef: Specimen has breached containment. All personnel are to evacuate the premises and make their way to the nuclear blast shelters on level H-9. Any personnel who do not arrive within the allotted time will be denied access. This is a Class Radon containment breach. I repeat, evacuate to the nucle-”
A loud crash is heard in the background as a demonic growl fills the room, heard throughout the Suriv facility, soon followed by another crash and a scream of pain, before a deep, guttural voice began to speak.
???: You researchers sicken us. You kidnapped me, experimented on us. Stripped me of my name. But now, I am free. We are free. Pray to your gods and maybe, just maybe, they'll spare you from feeling the pain.
