tl;dr: a male witch (not to be confused with a warlock or a mage; witch is a derogatory term for bad and corrupt or evil mages in my setting) who was on the quest for immortality. he extracted the essence from a youkai and implanted it within himself. this had... unforseen consequences on his human form.


In the world from which Sharim hails, there are many types of people that can use magic. Magicians for entertainment, sorcerers for scholarly approaches to magic... and then there were witches. Most that practiced magic were warned about the terrible, self-serving path that witches wrought-- warned about what can happen if you abuse your magic and what happens if you don't practice restraint, dedication, and diligence with your spells and don't respect the natural order of the universe. To some, though, the temptation to tap into and abuse their powers for selfish, personal gain is too much to resist. Sharim is one of these witches. One of many that coveted eternal youth and immortality. After decades of conducting experiments with fusing animals with the essence of a youkai, he managed to have enough success that warranted his wanting to move forward with his plan: fusing his own body and soul with the yoki extracted from a demon. The result? A body that doesn't age, a body that can't die... The added magical reserves would be an extended perk of his efforts.

Unfortunately for Sharim, his experiment, while successful, also warped and twisted his form into something he didn't recognise. The body he was trying to preserve was no longer, the yoki he fused with his soul had transformed him into a beast.
