Due: July 11!
"Yamato nadeshiko". The Japanese concept of the "perfect wife", the "wildflower of Japan". The iron-willed defender of the household, yet at the same time the devoted and obedient wife to those in authority above her. One who is skilled in any and all aspects of family and home life, yet with the wits to protect it.
It's a truly attractive and (when written or displayed well) subtly beautiful set of qualities. A set of qualities it seemed only natural for Shinara Motoharu's parents to try and instill in their subtly pretty young daughter.
... It's a shame those quickly became the antithesis of what she wanted to be.
To be fair, her parents had mostly focused on the former aspect, that of familial piety and home care. The wits, perhaps they intended to instill when she was old enough to understand the lessons, perhaps they felt she would simply pick them up naturally... perhaps they simply wanted their daughter to be a pretty little doormat with good cooking skills. What they intended isn't really clear.
It's not like Nara could know at this point. She left home before she could find out.
That's right, Nara is a runaway, with only a few kimonos (and her favorite kappougi) and a few odds and ends to her name, too fed up with endless lessons of cooking, cleaning, proper manners, and on and on to cave to her parents' desires any further. And yet... she seems content enough when cooking for someone else on her own, slipping almost naturally into the role when she takes up an odd job at a coffee house or a cleaner's or even a maid cafe once or twice... Perhaps her parents' lessons took hold? Or perhaps there's something her parents saw from the beginning?
... well, that's for you to find out, now isn't it?
