Fanchar played by
Solan. Please note, this character is almost exclusively for story-based roleplay; if I'm on as Shinki, it means that I am 100% not in the mood for vore, and likely not even for sexual RP. Also, please note that the story points following Mystic Square are NOT part of the Touhou canon, but the creation of myself and (mostly) a close friend.
Shinki's theme!
Shinki, the self-styled super-reliable goddess of Makai... well, she is a goddess, in fact, and creator of the demons' realm. Everything within Makai is her own creation, with two notable exceptions, both of them introduced into the realm from without after its birth. As Makai and its people grew, so did the faith both the realm and its inhabitants had in their goddess, and so in turn Shinki slowly became more powerful, until even Reimu would have been hard-pressed to fight her...
which, in the end, she was forced to. The first time, of course, was merely a friendly battle, sparked by Shinki letting her people venture out to explore Gensokyo freely, an action regarded by the shrine maiden and several of Gensokyo's other powerful residents as an invasion from Makai. (This is in effect the events of
Mystic Square.) The other, however... came on the heels of a true invasion. Shinki had her reasons, though it's unlikely she'd ever share them with anyone who doesn't already know them. It was a hard-fought battle, but in the end the shrine maiden and her allies struck down the invaders, and in the ensuing chaos, Makai was laid waste. As the weakened Shinki watched, Reimu made a hard decision... and the goddess was forced to watch her realm crumbling around her, her faith evaporating... Her sight began to waver, and then one of the gathered fighters struck, leaving the former goddess of Makai with nothing but darkness.
There's a reason that Reimu created the spell-card system, after all.
In the end, the goddess was slain, and the fighter who had been forced to take her life in the end interred her body within the Forest of Magic, Makai vanishing except for a few scattered places where the inhabitants' magic had kept it strong. One such place was Hokkai, where the magician Byakuren Hijiri had been sealed... the girl's own immense magic sustaining the surrounding area against the collapse brought on by Shinki's demise.
But, as a certain frog-loving miko proved twice over, a goddess can never really truly die as long as there is even one source of faith that can give them hope...
"..."
"I... I can move...?"
"Ngh, that... that's sunlight..."
"..."
"Alice... Mari... Byakuren... hehe, I should have guessed you as well... and, Reimu... I can feel it..."
"So... I'm alive..."
And so we come to the present. Shinki has been revived once more, thanks to the faith of five very special people to her, as well as a bit of a catalyst from one experienced in manipulating faith. However... Makai truly is gone, save for Hokkai and a few surrounding locations, and Shinki herself retains barely any faith; what little she has generally goes into keeping her physical form and life force intact. As far as things like danmaku and flying go, she has a very little, but she's taken to flying on a broom like Marisa does, being still quite skilled in magic, even if she doesn't often have the energy to cast anything large-scale anymore. She could maybe serve as a stage 1... midboss. Beyond that she has little to no fighting capabilities, just a few very simple danmaku patterns and a lone spellcard that's far weaker than it once was.
Not that she really minds. She chalks her loss and death up to in large part overconfidence in her own powers. This has led to her simply wandering Gensokyo, generally accompanied by at least one of her friends, or at least a few of Alice's dolls, since (again) she's not even really strong enough to fight off Rumia at this point.
Personality-wise, Shinki is fairly friendly and playful, though as with quite a few others, she's far wiser than first impressions would indicate. She was at the height of her powers a master of magic, and created her entire realm of Makai from scratch. Not to mention, she had a thousand years to mingle with and exchange knowledge with Byakuren, a woman with a philosophy surprisingly similar to hers... Shinki is in many ways a motherly youkai, even after having lost her realm and powers as a goddess, and even has a bit of a lecturing streak in her that makes some wonder if she hung out with the Yama in her younger days. She has quite a few rules, and has the habit of quoting them whenever they seem appropriate to a discussion, even if it annoys the person she's quoting it too... well, often enough
because it annoys them. While wise and incredibly talented, Shinki is certainly not above being playful...
Above all, Shinki has given up fighting, barring a friendly mutual display of danmaku. Whatever her reason may have been for invading, it no longer exists, and now Shinki is simply another Gensokyo resident, travelling about from place to place, befriending humans and youkai alike. There's been a lot of changes in ten years, after all, and she wants to learn about all of it!
