Meet Shizuka, a girl simply trying to live a somewhat normal life. Truth be told, at a young age, she lost the ability show much emotion. She can still feel it! She just perpetually looks bored or irritated. As a result she was never really approached in her school life. She was isolated, alone. Lucky for her, she had a knack for getting her hands on the unusual or at least just stumbling across it. The specifics were a blur but she had somehow come into a contract with a girl from some far off world. Technically it was a master/servant relationship. She was in charge of this girl she had accidentally dragged out of the aether. Who was she? Well, her name was Hime. She may look like a normal girl but she's far FAR from that. This girl could use MAGIC. Not only that, but she was actually part cat! Illusionary magics are just used to hide her cat-like features. Hime was greatly attached to Shizuka (who she'd frequently call "Master"). Shizuka had to get her adjusted to this world as well as getting her to stop calling her that! Truly, this would be a pain...
The two grew up together, as besties! Hime grew more accustomed to her new life and started calling Shizuka "Shizu". And Shizuka obviously got more comfortable around her friend who was technically just a guardian spirit in a way. It was hard to see one without the other. Hime was obviously more popular than Shizuka in school but they were a package deal. If you were friends with Hime, you had to be friends with Shizuka (much to her dismay at this point). While Shizuka had many "friends" at this point, none of them were really people who she'd hang out with. She had become so used to her isolation that this was worse than when she was alone. Luckily, the two would be entering high school soon and transfering. She wouldn't need to worry about all these people. There could be a new strategy. Hime just had to not be a social butterfly...

High school came around and the plan was in effect. Hime readily agreed to her master's orders and the two kept to themselves. Although Hime was still incredibly popular for... obvious reasons. Of course, this plan had resulted in its own form of backfiring. Because the two spent their time almost exclusively togetherm people had assumed the two were lesbians. And yeah, sure, the two swung in either direction, Shizuka didn't really have any romantic feelings for Hime. Although Hime... well... Hime had no one else to tease thanks to them spending all their time together. So the mischievous side of this cat started coming out.
These displays of affection were certainly an issue... Shizuka had tried ordering Hime not to but that certainly did not work. In fact, the frequency only increased. Hime had learned to read Shizuka's emotions despite her flat expression. And the "face" she made when teased like this was "the cutest". A rise out of the girl, that's what Hime wanted. Shizuka was still a relatively normal girl. Sure, she had a magical cat girl at her beck and call, but there was nothing she could really do. She ended up allowing the teasing, but only behind closed doors. And nothing further than teasing! Of course, Hime would try and push what was considered teasing and not, which Shizuka would swiftly shoot down. This cat was certainly being a problem... What could Shizuka do?
For her time in high school, she spent her free time in various libraries. She dug up book after book. The more obscure and occulty the better. Certainly someone else has had a servant like this in history... Maybe she could let Hime be independent and she would live life freely and not harrass her... She did find an answer to the independence part. The only way for a servant to break free of their contract is to complerely dominate the master. The longer a master and servant spent together, the more the servants instinct for freedom will kick in. Shizuka had shot herself in the foot. She had ended up only accelerating Hime's inherent despire for freedom. Sure, Shizuka was Hime's favorite person in the world. But nothing could stop this. What was the plan? Shizuka needed a plan.
There was no plan.
All she could do was take back her previous orders. Hime would spend more time with other people and Shizuka alone and defenseless. Not that anyone would approach her anyway. Hime would still come if Shizuka called and the two still lived together, but Shizuka was trying her hardest to create distance. What would happen if Hime dominated? She didn't want to know. The occult had a history of horrible things happening to people in Shizuka's position and she didn't want to know what would happen to her.

Fast forward! Shizuka and Hime had graduated! Now it was time for her to find a creer path and... Honestly, Shizuka had wasted her school life focused on both babysitting Hime and studying her in a way. She COULD reveal her existence and cause a crazy boom in the occult and sciences but that didn't feel right. What was something she could do? Ponder ponder.......... Shizuka had decided! She would work at her family's cafe. I For now at least. Or well... if Hime's inevitable future "domination" didn't result in her death, she'd like to take it over. It had a quiet and relaxing atmosphere and everyone who went there knew her for her and not for Hime. So in all honesty, she'd prefer working there more than anywhere else. Plus it's a guaranteed hire! It's perfect! Thusly, that's just what she does now.
