"Oh, you should come in, out of the cold. You wouldn't want to end up dead, all alone, would you...?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Among the northern and mountainous regions of the world, tragic tales abound of travelers becoming lost in blizzards, caught up in flooding avalanches, and simply collapsing of hypothermia. Other are more exotic in their nature and subject, such as the popular myths of the abominable snowmen, yetis, and trolls who live in the icy caves scattered along the landscape. None of them are as extravagant and as strangely enticing as the tales of the "Snow Maidens", the Yukionna, however.
"Dear, you should come with me." She would say, placing a cooled hand to the cheek of a wandering or collapsed passerby. Man or woman, it does not matter to one her kind, in that simply the companionship of another, in all it's potential ventures and avenues, is reward enough. "You might just catch a cold; Come inside, where it's warm."
It's said that the Yukionna are the spirits of young women who had become lost in the blizzards of such regions, all alone in their deaths, though numerous other stories have also circulated. Some attribute their ghastly yet strikingly beautiful appearance to that of demon blood, believing their appearance and powers to be that of hereditary nature from a otherworldly blood-line, such as other native-outsiders of the realm. Regardless of where these creatures hail from, they all share a few base characteristics: They maintain a very cold body temperature, are able to control ice at will, and even more interesting, share a terrible fear of loneliness.
Snowe is no different. Hers is a vague and mysterious past, as not even she truly knows from where or whence she came. She had no mother, and no father, at least that she can remember, and she began the rest of her life, to her memory, as a fully grown woman, which seems to imply that she must have been one of the unfortunate few who must die of a painfully sorrowful death to become such a creature. Even so, Snowe's outlook is mostly fair-weathered, even considering the poor girl's condition and location away from that she longs for. While none can truly account for her origins, such history being a mystery, even to the girl, herself, she retains all the qualities of her kind. Her appearance is marked with shockingly pale skin, a very light azure color of hair, the likes of which reach down to the small of her back, and her clothing is usually singularly consisting of a white kimono, accenting her blending personality to the snow that constantly surrounds her. Like all yukionna, she also wishes for someone to share her life with, as living in the mountains alone can be rather unsatisfying for someone like herself. Because of this, all travelers are welcome to rest themselves in her home.
Often, however, such cases are moreso sad than actually a solution to her predicament; Usually, such travelers are found lost and near death in the snowy wilderness. Bringing them to the comfort of her home, they lie with few blankets for insulation until they either perish, or awaken, in which case, it's very rare that they take her advances very well at all. Even when some do not initially find themselves in sudden fear of her nature, and even in the small chance that they accept her tender care and whispers, they usually end up leaving her, in the end. A cursed fate that most of her kind share. Nothing that a snowcone or some ice cream can't tide her through, however. Snowe has a very wonderful habit of always bouncing back from whatever disappointment she might encounter, even if sometimes, it takes longer, or a little more ice cream than others.
Because of this... problem, she, like so many others of her kind, has experimented with ways of keeping those that she finds close and dear to her. This included a number of things, such as freezing and entrapment, but also lead to her discovery of her body's odd capabilities, such as being able to hold others within herself. Even better, for such a method, is that her low body temperature not only makes her very comfortable, but also allows more precious air to circulate within her body. Despite the seeming use of such an ability, she does not use it very often, on account of her shy nature, and the intimacy that such actions often involve. After all, even inside of her belly, there's a certain element of closeness that is between herself and her captive, and even moreso when considering the way they might just be exiting her body. That, along with other options, make it a sensitive matter with her.
Though, as many others have found, her version of 'Shy' is rather easily overcome, especially when one seems to return potential interest in staying with her. After all, having been cooped up in her limited environment makes having that special someone so much more wonderful an idea to her, which makes for a personality that is very quick to incite passion and thoughts of infatuation. It's very easy to imagine that even someone of her particular nature would even risk cooking and consuming hot foods for one that she finds her heart taken with, and for a yukionna, that's no small task. After all, boiling water and the heated air of stoves and ovens are terrible plagues to one with such a disposition and temperament, or even a composition like hers. But then... No distance is too great for love to cross, or so she loves to believe.
So, if you happen to find yourself dying of frostbite and hypothermia, or even are just passing by and are getting a little tired, you shouldn't be afraid to accept her offer of a snowcone and warm place to sleep. After all, the worst that could happen is you end up staying with her, forever. That's not so bad, right?
