I thought of some profile game dice games, so I figured I'd share them.
This is a dice game with an uncertain end date... You could stay inside for a short while, or if you are unlucky, there might be no end in sight for you. Sounds risky? Of course!
Here it how it works: to escape, you need to roll a 1 on an x-sided die, where x is the current day number +1. So at day 1, you roll a 2-sided die, which means you got about a 50% chance to be able to escape. If you don't, the next day you need to roll a 3-sided die and hope for a 1, and so on, and so on. So that means that although you are likely to escape a the start, if you don't, you might have to prepare on a long stay...
For reference, here is a table of your chances to have escaped at the end of different days:
Day inside belly | Chance of of having escaped |
---|---|
1 | 50.00% |
2 | 66.67% |
3 | 75.00% |
4 | 80.00% |
5 | 83.33% |
6 | 85.71% |
7 | 87.50% |
8 | 88.89% |
9 | 90.00% |
10 | 90.91% |
20 | 95.24% |
30 | 96.77% |
40 | 97.56% |
50 | 98.04% |
Note how your chances to escape are ever dwindling, should you be unlucky enough not to be able to. Perhaps rescue attempts are getting stopped, your strength or willpower sapped, the hope of eventual escape appearing ever more distant. When will you give up?
Okay, so you want to stay longer than just a day or two? No worries, there are ways to get it done, and it's pretty simple; just skip rolling on the first few days. Here is how the chances turn out if you only roll the dice on day 5 and forwards:.
Day inside belly | Chance of of having escaped |
---|---|
10 | 54.55% |
20 | 76.19% |
30 | 83.87% |
40 | 87.80% |
50 | 90.20% |
And here is how it would look like if you would choose to only start rolling on day 10:
Day inside belly | Chance of of having escaped |
---|---|
10 | 9.09% |
20 | 52.38% |
30 | 67.74% |
40 | 75.61% |
50 | 80.39% |
Do you get turned on the despair of having an ever-fleeting chance to succeed? Are you willing to risk your character, essentially, never escaping? Well, this variant is for you..
Although it can be combined with skipping the first few days of rolls (only recommended if you want to do pseudo-perma), the alternate rules are potent enough already. Take the the number of sides on a dice on any given day, then multiply it by two. So at day 1, when you normally roll a 2-sided die, you instead roll a 4-sided one, and hope for a 1. Day two it would be a 6-sided die, day three an 8-sided one... I guess you can see how your chances of success are rapidly dwindling.
Here is how it would look like:
Day inside belly | Chance of of having escaped |
---|---|
10 | 66.36% |
20 | 75.52% |
30 | 79.82% |
40 | 82.43% |
50 | 84.24% |
100 | 88.79% |
1000 | 96.43% |
10000 | 98.87% |
That's right, with this, there is ~10% to not have escaped by day 100, and a ~1% chance that you will not have escaped after 10 000 days. That's longer than 27 years! So... use this version with caution!
