We shall devour the world out from under those who don't.
Hi, I'm Jeremiah and allow me to welcome you to the Children of Derbices. I'll be overseeing your membership.
Our purpose, our mission statement if you will, is to create the next level of the food chain. Nothing is above mankind, which is where we come in. Think of us as tigers, keeping the antelope from becoming too common and tipping the population balance. We do what nature refuses to do for itself. We eat people.
Of course, seeing as we accept most applicants, it would be most redundant for us to create a system where our members are off limits. Therefore, we have a hierarchy. You, for example, are a Rank 1, the lowest on the totem poll in our ranks. Anyone with a higher number than yours is entitled to your flesh, but only after nine months. Without that time limit, no newbies would last long and we'd be without people to ascend our ranks when our current officers die. Once you hit Rank 2, however, there is no such delay in the availability of your flesh. If you don't reach Rank 2 within the nine months you likely weren't cut out for it any--
Where are you going? If you leave now, you're fair game, and I'd hate to kill you. You seem like such a nice person.
Legality? Not a problem. We have some of the best legal minds in the world, all of whom are completely off-limits. Rank 31. The only one higher than them is Derbices himself and his heirs.
Now, lemme show you to your locker. It's refrigerated, of course...
This can be a sci-fi or fantasy setting, but only in small doses and those who aren't magical or whatnot are completely oblivious to the supernatural elements. This is also a pure pred account, and one can make up their own member to be eaten by. CE_Hunter used to be visited regularly by recruiters from the Children before the higher ups started noticing that none of the recruiters ever returned.
Members
Ones in More details will be added as I play them more. More characters will be added as I make them up.
Asura Derbices XII, Rank 32. The leader. Something of an enigma. Takes his first name from a demon in a Hindu myth. His last name comes from an ancient tribe of Indian cannibals long since extinct.
Asura Derbices XIII, Rank 32. The liaison. Acts on her father's orders when leading the Children and handles press and publicity. Somewhat flippant but very friendly when she's not busy.
Ezekiel, Rank 31. One of the Childrens' lawyers, incredibly stoic to the point of near inhumanity, and frightening even by everyone else's standards. You do not fuck with him.
Jeremiah, Rank 30. Constantly smiley, encouraging, and upbeat, he's almost inhumanly kind, even when he's about to eat your face. Not a big fan of pain or torture, really just looking for a good meal. Naturally, under this charming exterior is an intuitive mind who realizes that the best way to move up is to play dumb.
Evan, Rank 30. Ex-military medic discharged when he lost the lower half of his left leg. Uses his medical knowledge to keep his prey alive through the entire cooking process, and his targets as cooking practice. Snappish, alcoholic and condescending, doesn't appear to get a lot of sleep, especially since being put in the admissions department. His recent and massive promotion has not helped.
Gerald, Rank 29. Considered to be the best chef in the place and generally in charge of the food for large events. Fancies himself a culinary artiste, even though he's not foreign and doesn't know how to pronounce artiste. He just thinks the added "e" looks classy.
Henry, Rank 28. The man at the front desk. Very world-savvy, or at least you would think so because there's always a paper in his face. Not fond of people in general, and it's that sense of superiority that makes him feel good about his place in the origination. A man of few words, almost all of them snarky.
Yeah...this guy's not here for RP. More for world-building flavor.
Block, Rank 26. The mechanic who designed most of the wonderful toys in the Derbices' headquarters biggest kitchen. Decent guy, bit of an ass if he feels it's called for.
Luke, Rank 25. The man at the front desk when Henry's off-duty.
And again.
Rachel, Rank 22. Kind of quiet and stoic. Probably one of about five people in the whole origination who actually shares it's philosophy and isn't just there for her own selfish pleasures. On a philosophical level, she likes to think that she'd be fine with being on someone else's plate, but hasn't quite come to terms with it yet.
Cory, Rank 22. Calm, rational and a bit distanced, Cory's in it for the food. He prefers straight-up abduction to playing mind games with his prey, and given his muscular build and general stealthiness he's quite good at it. He's also Elisa's boyfriend.
Elisa, Rank 22. Outgoing, a bit hot-headed and generally flirty, Elisa's in it for the torture, mental as well as physical. She's rather small and bookish-looking, so can do the innocent act quite well when she wants to. She's also Cory's girlfriend.
James, Rank 22. Delusional, possibly even to the point of mental illness or early-onset senility. Has occasional flashes of brilliance.
Beth, Rank 20. Sultry, seductive, and subtle as a brick wall, and uses this to her advantage moving up the ranks. She, like Jim, has a weakness for fucking, something that has--if you'll pardon the pun--yet to come back and bite her in the ass. She appears to have something for the underage. Even Jim finds this vaguely revolting.
Jim, Rank 18. Regarded by everyone as a cocky little shithead, but not worth anyone's time. He's in it for the sex, which is odd because you're not allowed to fuck your meals. No one knows he does yet. He was blackmailing Beth into what basically amounts to sex slavery after catching her fucking a meal on tape, but her leveling up has changed that.
Count, Rank 17. One of the chef's assistants for big events and whatnot.
Raven, Rank 14. More fascinated by the death angle than anything, and enjoys gunplay. Gets her kicks manipulating her way into dangerous situations and then turning the tables on her captors. It's especially fun making lower-ranking Children think she's willing play.
Ruth, Rank 7. Overbearing and overenthusiastic with a bit of a mean streak. Something of a brat, but with a caring interior. She's the only person who doesn't shun Kai during her exile in spite of the two disliking each other early on. She's incredibly wealthy and majoring in history. Friends-with-benefits with Kai.
Devi, Rank 7. A bit of a bitch with no tolerance for, well, people.
Keith, Rank 6. Just starting college, Keith's a bit timid and not much of a people-person, though when the mood strikes him he can be fairly sharp-witted. He also has a talent for thinking on his feet. He also is one of few members who have a social life outside the Children: his best friend Jeff and his girlfriend Kristy know nothing of his recent dietary habits. He borrows a house Jeff rents out by a nearby lake for his cooking activities.
Amy, Rank 6. Generally soft-spoken and emotional, with a tendency to scare easily. Very aware of tropes and cliches. Also a damn good shot who can switch from unfocused and upset to competent without missing a beat. Possibly bipolar.
CE_Hunter, not a member, though recruiting him has been attempted multiple times. As an individual entity, he isn't bound by anything on this page. Click his name for more info.
Members played by Jen_SutterKatie, Rank 28. Having just moved from California, Katie is eager to make new friends and has big dreams for the organization. Having recently pulled off a massive boat heist, which gave many members massive rank-ups and caused new rules to be put in place to prevent a repeat, she's at a loss for what to do next.
Jake, Rank 8.
Kai, Rank 3. She's psychotic, sadistic, and apathetic to everyone around her, but also knows how to work a situation to her advantage and is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades where being a Child is involved. Recently tried to seduce Keith, it turned into an aborted rape attempt and a threat on his girlfriend's life. He retaliated by getting her arrested, and the Children responded by unpersoning her (though there may be more to it.) Currently Ruth's friend-with-benefits.
