She's a heavy-class Strike Witch, and one intended for long range missions, ones without support. Aerial Commando, basically. She has to be able to fend refuel and resupply herself as necessary. 'Live off the land', as it were. Hence her, ah... 'fuel tanks'.

As a Strike Witch, she is a technomage. Her flight nacelles- the metal things wrapped around her legs- run off of magical energy in her body. The cybernetics and other augments allow her to process some of her meals into magical energy- fuel for her mechanical bits and engines.

She normally consumes metals and scrap- warzone debris, and the like- for her internal systems to use for repair and manufacturing.
