Syrene

(Work in progress)

Syrene is a Angler fish mermaid. She's amphibious, and can handle both fresh and salt water, though she prefers salt water environments. She likes dark, rocky underwater areas to live and sleep in, but she loves the surface- so much color, and so many interesting things!

While she can breathe air, she has no vocal chords and is mute. That doesn't mean she cannot communicate; as she knows sign language and can do pantomime to supplement. Her sinuous and flexible body allows for some very fluid and expressive body language.

Physical appearance: Syrene has a humanoid body- arms, legs, hands. A spined fin down her back, as well as fins on her calves, forearms, and with webbed fingers and toes, she is very agile in the water.

Her skin is very pale, but has bright, bioluminescent spots along her arms, legs, and the sides of her torso. Her eyes are circular plates, and are also luminescent; they can be controlled, as well as the glow of her lure.

The lure has about three feet of range, and is the size of a fist. The lure is very sensitive, and can elicit an instinct level response if she's caught unaware. If she's hunting, she can lure fish in for lunch. If you bump or tap it and she's not paying attention, you might lose a hand.

She's got an appetite. It's cold at the levels of ocean where she lives and food is scarce. She needs to eat to keep herself warm, but up on the surface, food is more plentiful, and it's warmer. So yay.

Secondly, she can and will eat most any kind of food, but seafood is her staple, and anything salty is a treat for her.

Thirdly- She's big on being touched. Physical contact for her people means you're willing to expend calories and burn off food to be with someone, and since food is somewhat scarce, that's a very big thing.

Fourth- she loves being 'big' and full. She's happiest when breeding and gorging herself and having someone cuddle with her and rub her belly is enough to leave her limp, incoherent, and very, VERY happy.

No touchie the lure. Touch the lure and lose a hand. Literally. It's an instinct-reflex level response, like the doctor tapping your knee and making your leg jerk. Touch lure, hand go bye-bye.
