The pun is bad, and I should feel bad.
But I don't.
Basically, it's Team 9 in pony form. While they all have wings and the ability to use magic, their power is nowhere near that of an Alicorn, and is generally specific to their given talent.
Backstory:
Gensokyo is the land where things forgotten inevitably end up, but those things need not be from the Earth you may be familiar with. So it isn't surprising that an obscure relic hidden in the depths of Canterlot's castle would end up there, incidentally forming a bridge between two worlds.
Cirno (Bakarctic) can manipulate and create cold and ice. Hopefully her boast of being 'the strongest' won't put her in conflict with Rainbow Dash.
Wriggle Nightbug (Bakakroach) Can summon and manipulate insects. Oh, and she already has a pony-appropriate name!
Mystia Lorelei (Bakapella) Can induce night-blindness. A good singer, knows how to cook eels perfectly, which is kinda useless for ponykind.
Rumia (Bakarnivore) Can manipulate darkness. Beware, this one eats meat!
