"Reference Clip"
Humans have named them Thanators, from the Greek word θάνατος thánatos, meaning "death." The creature you see before you does, indeed,
have his own name, apart from his species. To those who are lucky enough to exchange mental thoughts, he refers himself as Tur'el.
The Thanator, Na'vi name: Palulukan or “Dry Mouth Bringer of Fear”. Bestiapanthera ferox or “fierce panther beast”. Located
normally patrolling the Rainforest floor. Similar species have been observed in subarctic regions. Possible apex land predator
of Pandora. Reminiscent of a Terran panther, this enormous, powerful animal is unique in its ability to lord over its
territory and strike fear into the largest and fiercest of Pandora's creatures. Even the Na'vi, who are renowned for
their courage, are shaken by its the approach. Also, it is not celebrated in dance or song by the Na'vi.
Anatomy
Its 20 foot musculature is pronounced and impressive, providing power for protracted runs and leaps. All six legs are
thick and robust built for speed, power, and stamina. Speed is also found in its armored head and neck. It’s distensible
armored jaw holds nine inch long teeth while upper lips fold back for maximum tooth extension. Jaw strength
is designed to crush local wildlife bones, requiring PSIs that surpass any earth creature. Armored chitinous plating
covers the creature’s dorsal region. In addition to conventional ripping and tearing with razor sharp claws, the Thanator
can also deliver a lethal blow from its armored tail with a slam or stab of his poisionous barb. Ten highly developed sensory
quills, each protected by flaring cartilaginous armor plates, encircle the rear of its skull. It is rumored that these quills can
echolocate. It also has an armored neck and back. The Thanator has burnished black leathery skin, that is layered
across his lips, back and hind end that can flex for taunting visual displays. It is estimated that Tur'el is a few hundred
pounds above two tons of weight.
