Nothing this large should be able to stalk yet the disappearances in the wilds keep happening. Hunters, tourists, and thrillseekers don't always come back from the redwoods. Search parties turn up empty handed, when they turn up. The rumor is that an apex predator has claimed the forest though nothing credible ever turns up to prove it. Sure there's the occasional local with a wild story about giant wolves or bad photography on the internet, but this is dismissed and the park stays open.

The truth is Tova's made a den just outside of the city where predators play and the prey is never ending. She's intelligent enough to not press her luck. A full belly is enough to keep her sated. Someone to tease before dinner is a bonus. When she does manage some form of clothing it's usually made from discarded tents and tends to shred quickly in her active predatory lifestyle. Those who have gotten on the wolf's good side have found that she does enjoy conversation and games. Gifts always flatter though gifts of food tend to yield mixed results. Sure she appreciates the gesture but is that really going to make a full meal?

She's entirely at home with her life as the Beast of the Woods. When things are slow some of the locals might notice pets or livestock going missing or automobiles carefully placed upside down without a sound. The pranks are tollerated since it could have been worse. Sometimes travelers are purposefully given bad directions to make sure the wolf stays fed. After all, she's unlikely to let anything hurt her 'emergency rations' as long as they provide an alternative. Anyone and everyone who isn't ready to task the risk has already moved.
