Tzyshrelle

The holy church teaches that the Dark Godess Farore will one day be reborn into the world; what they do not realize is that she already has. Many times, in fact. Each and every time, she is struck down again and again and again by a lone knight hell bent on ridding the world of Farore's dark influence forever.

The first time that Farore was reborn into the world, the task of slaying her before she could come into the fullness of her dark might was the younger sister of the girl whom she had been reborn into. Tzyshrelle was an ordinary shield-maiden but when the call from God came, she answered it. She struck down Farore's vessel, her own sister, and saved the world at a terrible personal cost. But it is, alas, not so easy as that to remove a god from the world. Within days, Farore had found a new host somewhere in the world. Tzyshrelle, determined that she should not have murdered her own beloved sister for nothing, was armed by the church, blessed and annointed, and sent out with their blessing to strike down the Dark Goddess wherever she should be found.

Bound to Farore's fate, Tzyshrelle has been hunting the goddess and striking down her vessels for so long that the Church has forgotten about her quest and the events that began it. To the peoples of the world, Black Knight Tzyshrelle is a bogeyman whose existance is scarsely believed... a black-armored, grim figure that rides into town, strikes down a random woman, and disappears over the horizon again. Be she queen or fishmonger, infant or crone, there is no mercy or pity within Tzyshrelle's armored hand. When one vessel is struck down, another woman somewhere in the world becomes the new vessel and Tzyshrelle is drawn to her inexorably. Who Farore inhabits is utterly random; sometimes it has taken Tzyshrelle decades to cross the planet to catch up with her eternal foe. But she has time, because age will not claim the Black Knight.

Tzyshrelle has become a living amphora; every time she strikes down one of Farore's vessels, she absorbs the barest sliver of the dark goddess' essence into her body, all in the hopes that one day, she herself will be chosen as the next vessel, so she can use her own life force to seal Farore in a realm outside of the world. She has become hardened and callous in her task. Those chosen as a vessel have no clue until it is almost too late and Farore has taken them over. The church has a squad dedicated to hunting Tzyshrelle down for her 'crimes' and governments send soldiers after her whenever she is found within their borders. Hated and hunted but desperately fighting to hold the darkness back anyway, the black knight walks a solitary road. Occasionally, she welcomes a companion on her quest, but they never last. Either age or depression takes them, if they are not killed on the quest. Twice, one of Tzyshrelle's companions were selected as vessels for Farore. In neither case did Tzyshrelle hesitate. The Black Knight has become desensitized to such things over the centuries, her heart hardened against love, laughter, and mirth.

But one day, perhaps one day soon, her long quest will finally be over and she will have earned her rest.
