Background:
Since the day he was born, Valdemar had become somewhat attached to animals and natures creatures. Growing up, his father owned many snakes, lizards and various amphibian pets and regularly let his son hold them and 'play' with them. For the first five years of his life, Val was mute. He never spoke, never made a sound other than infantile crying when he was just a baby, and according to doctors there was no physical reason for it, he simply just... didn't.

He grew attached to his father's pets, sitting with them and playing with them for hours on end. One day, he shocked his father by simply tugging on his shirt and speaking his first words. He told his father the lizard was sick and needed to go to the 'hop-sital' right away. When his father was more shocked and exited at his sons first words more so than the lizard's heath, he cried and threw tantrums until finally they went to the vets. As it turned out, the lizard was dying from kidney failure, and had they waited any longer the poor guy would have died in the night and normally such a illness is impossible to spot before it's too late.

Today:

Now in his early twenties, Val had learned to break from his shell and speak more openly to others but after learning he has an ability to speak with animals, he prefers their company over humans just about any day of the week. Growing up as a bit of a social outcast left him without very many friends but his talent presented himself with a decently paying, flexible job of speaking to animals for their owners or even to be hired by local authorities to identify murders witnessed by victim's pets or quite regularly to identify animal abusers for rescued animals.
