Vasconia

A pink cat. That would usually be quite something, but here in the Park you might overlook it. Beyond her unusual coloring, she seems like just your stereotypical house cat. In actuality, the color of her fur is just the chip off the iceberg in terms of what distinguishes her from all others. She is intelligent, can read, write and talk, possesses more knowledge than you might originally think her small brain could possibly handle, and to those familiar with the supernatural, she is surrounded in a thick aura of powerful magicks.

You see, originally Vasconia was not a cat at all. She is one of the few remnants of the Philosopher Kingdom. Once a nation of powerful magic users, the Philosophers almost achieved world conquest, but for one reason or another, they lost control of the Source of their power and the ensuing outburst of dark magicks tore their kingdom asunder into oblivion.

Vasconia once was, and very much still is, a powerful sorceress, but somehow has come to be trapped in the form of a common house cat. It is known that the Philosopher Kings detested the death penalty and so instead allowed convicted criminals and prisoners of war to live by turning them into animals. It is also possible that, in the ensuing fallout, Vasconia turned herself into a cat to prevent the dark magicks of the Source from tearing her apart. The most popular story is a combination of the two; that Vasconia feels responsible for the loss of the Kingdom and acted as judge, jury and executioner upon herself. Nobody can say for sure; Vasconia refuses to speak of the event.

Her powers have greatly diminished since the loss of her humanity, but she is still quite a force to be reckoned with. She can use what magicks she retained from her sorceress days to perform a multitude of spells, most commonly either shrinking her intended prey as small as a mouse or expanding herself to the size of a tiger, or any variation of anything in between.

Of course, that's assuming that she ever WANTS to be reckoned with. Vasconia has more or less accepted the strange cycle of life here in the Park, and she's generally mellow. Or perhaps, more accurately, she still mourns and is more comfortable living as if she really were just an average house cat. She rarely speaks, much less speaks about herself. Beyond her size-changing magicks, she currently has no reason to use her powers for anything more. She has very little desire to do anything that might force her to look back on her life, so she usually only reveals herself as a sorceress when beset by a predator that she finds repulsive, and usually then to change their roles in the food chain (turnabout is a dish best served fresh).

Vasconia is currently living the life of a stray, but is free to take home and may be kept as a pet if she approves of the would be owner (as a powerful sorceress, she cannot be bound against her will, IE: she can be kept as a pet, but not a slave). She's cynical in her thought patterns and has absolutely no love for hunters that revel in their status in the food chain (toying with their prey or treating them like they should be honored to be their food and the like), but she's seen enough in the Park to have some level of appreciation for the more passive predators. She has more than one means of reviving herself (the natural order of the Park being one of them), so sometimes she finds the prospect of being eaten preferable to the prospect of being known for what she truly is.
