Vedenemo

Vedenemo a.k.a Witch of the Depths

The depths of the ocean are a place that few people have visited, let alone have become familiar with in any truly personal way; full of mysterious and nightmarish creatures that look as if they have sprung from mad man's deepest fears. Even in the most horrific places there exists beauty, although a few would argue that the beauty only exists on the surface in this particular case. Vedenemo began her life as a simple merfolk that lived in the warm shallows around continental beaches, getting a lot of contact with surface dwellers as well as fellow creatures that dwell beneath the waves. A simple scholar she was fascinated at the differences between land-folk culture and magic and the magic of the ocean, driven by the theory there had to be some unifying facet between the two different schools of thought. This obsession was only encouraged when she began to find proof of some unifying theory of the arcane that came from an earlier time and eventually she hit upon an almost mad idea. If life on land originally came from the ocean, then where did the ocean-dwellers come from? The only answer that she could come up with was that the source of magic could only be found at what she believed to be the source of life itself...the deepest ocean trenches, the bottomless abyss of black water where no merfolk dared to go for fear of the leviathans that lurked below, of abrupt volcanic activity, and a primal fear of what lay at the very bottom of the ocean.

Without a word to her families or loved ones, Vedenemo gathered up her belongings and set out for the abyssal depths, determined to discover the truth of the world. She did not return for close to three decades, long after her people assumed the foolish mermaid had been devoured by some hulking oceanic behemoth that had stumbled upon the tasty little morsel. When she finally did return, she was almost completely unrecognizable to those who had once known her. Pale skin had been transformed to a deep violet, lithe small body had changed into a curvy length of sensual flesh, blonde hair turned to inky blackness. The changes weren't just physical either, Vedenemo had been changed by what she had discovered in the depths and she view her own kind as nothing more then corralled sheep to be devoured or consumed as she saw fit. When she issued her declaration for the surrender of her former home, the king and queen scoffed at the threat and assumed her mind had been addled by what she had seen. The demand was rejected out of hand and Vedenemo was ushered away from polite merfolk society in case her madness proved infectious. It was not only infectious, it was destructive. Within a fortnight, entire schools of merfolk were demanding the king and queen abdicate their thrones to the sorceress in a mad frenzy, mobs that required military intervention to stop. Once the army was pulled away from the capital Vedenemo herself struck with a fiery fury against the two rulers she had treated with 'mercy', leading a charge of deep ocean behemoths to utterly destroy the palace of the royalty. Battle-maddened leviathans scourged the remaining guards in single monstrous gulps, schools of megalodons patrolled the ocean just beyond the palace grounds to devour reinforcements and escapees, while Vedenemo lead her greatest servitor against the palace itself...in immense, gluttonous kraken that methodically smashed the building to pieces before it's tentacles sought out the survivors to plop them into it's waiting maw. Only the king and queen were 'spared' the kraken's fury, pulled before Vedenemo herself. She forced the two to sign a surrender pack that bequeathed the kingdom to her rule before eating the two herself as a symbolic act of assuming control over her new kingdom.

With the help of her army of monstrous horrors, Vedenemo quickly expanded the scope of her kingdom far beyond it's traditional borders until the vast majority of the ocean paid fealty to her. Surface folk that wished to trade via the sea had to pay her tribute or find their ships scuttled and crews carried beneath the depths to never be seen again. She had attained complete and total victory with the secrets she had gleaned from the depths, but she was not yet done. The Brine Witch used another of her secrets to open a shimmering portal to a new world within her dark palace and swam through to a new world. Now Vedenemo studies a new world and new order of peoples to govern how she should deal with them, but keeps her portal home. She does not take slights lightly and if she feels some ignorant person has insulted her pride, she may just decide to bring her servitor creatures through to this new land to begin another bloody reign of conquest. Perhaps she will deal peacefully in this new world, she seems more interested in talking to these new peoples rather then subjugating them after all...

OOC Stuff

Looking for detailed, kinky role-play! Never played a mermaid before so this is all new territory for me and I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing just yet. Vedenemo is based off an old Finnish water goddess and thus she's quite capable of defending herself and is an avid predator. However, she's not a goddess herself so she's also quite capable of being prey as well. A lot of her magic relates to hypnotism or mind-control, which is a big thing with me as a player. It also deals with fertility and some sinister water-control, sailors who know of Vedenemo believe it to be a sign of terrible luck since many who do go missing, assumed to have drowned...Well...they did disappear, but they didn't drown.

Intrigued by permavore and willing to discuss it with my fellow partners.

Vedenemo is perfectly capable of maneuvering out of the water as she is in it. While she is capable of assuming a two legged form, she rarely does finding it uncomfortable and 'unsightly' on herself. More often she'll just use her powerful body to 'crawl' on dry land or, if speed is of the essence, conjure a sphere of water to carry her through the air.

Open to talking with anyone about character ideas, all I ask is that you respect my right to say no! Almost everything else is negotiable.
