SURVEY
A child of the capital elite, Venus (intimately Edie) grew up when "adventuring" was still an exclusive duty of the nobility. Her stratum was expected to venture out in spectacular fashion and she did, leveraging her family fortune to buy a stunning, custom-weighted halberd; distinctive, swan-like regalia; and even a unicorn on which she rode bareback into battle. She made out like a goddess – and in exchange for her services, she was treated like one.
Such idolatry would have gone to even the most humble girl's head. But Edie was not a humble girl: she needed to be worshipped, and so demanded servility that would have made even a princess blush. The peasants were willing to accomodate so long as she kept them safe from the beasts on the border, but as the Age of Adventure began and the nobility lost their monopoly, those once-adulatory citizens no longer needed to tolerate her ego. The narcissistic noble was bucked quickly from her high unicorn.
Smarting from her fall, starved of the sycophancy she craved, Edie took to stalking the Guild's new Messengers. Even in the relative safety of the capital outskirts, it was only a matter of time before the inexperienced recruits slipped up – and then she would appear, offering their last hope for survival. Those who'd shunned her sang a considerably different tune when their lives were at stake, and soon she had gathered a new flock of admirers. She had an uncanny talent for appearing when an adventurer needed her most, and those she rescued went on to spread stories of her virtue to any who would listen. Those who wouldn't – the few who saw the swan for the preening peacock she was – rarely lasted long. For she appeared only to those who treated her as she deserved...
Although Venus' skills are hardly exceptional (aside from in presentation), she's a competent and capable fighter with a good grasp on her chosen equipment and tactics.
She is effective on foot; on horseback, however, she becomes a force to be reckoned with.
