Verity_Caldwell

This is Verity Caldwell, "oldest" daughter of House Caldwell and one of few that embody the "Spirit of Wind". No, she isn't a spirit, it simply means that her magical affinity is wind. Verity is human, only 23 years old and rather energetic almost all the time, but definitely no spirit. Now, there's a reason why I said she's one of few that embody this, but we'll get to that later. For now, I wish to tell you about Verity some more. Lets start with House Caldwell, shall we? House Caldwell is one of the many noble houses that dot the world Verity hails from, with many members bearing it's name and many, many more servants and loyalist that serve its cause. Caldwell isn't the most influencial house, though it does serve an important role and has thus far produced some of the finest water and nature mages the land has seen. In fact, the family specializes in these two fields and are the only house that has ever produced a nature affinity mage, hence their importance. Without the Caldwells, there'd be no nature magic in this world, a type that does pretty much everything! Yet, the other reason they're considered important, is because Caldwell territory sits on the border lands between two kingdoms, providing allegiance to neither. They act as both a buffer region between the two and as neutral negotiators for both. As such, despite not being the most influencial, both nations see them as highly important and respect those that come from House Caldwell. Verity however, does not live up to this reputation. No, Verity developped the "Spirit of Wind" rather than that of water or nature, which to most was a bad sign for the family, given they pride themselves on the usual magical traits they end up embodying. Despite this fact, she is still first in line to inherit the family's holdings and titles... or was, anyway. She's, become known as somewhat of a free spirit and the family has yet to track down her exact whereabouts in order to make her take that responsibility. Yes, Verity left her home territory a long time ago in order to find her own place in the world. She'd been taught and groomed to become the next family head all her childhood, yet that'd only been stifling and boring to her, the young girl wanting to seek out adventure, knowledge and well, anything fun! Yes, Verity left home and now wanders the world doing things her own way and despite her family's best efforts, she's thus far avoided capture. I suppose it's not really capture, but it's the way she puts it usually. How she's done that is quite simple. She was taught how her family opperates and how they go about seeking those that try to leave their responsibilities. It's rather easy to avoid these methods when you know them, right? On top of that, she's also moved to a different kingdom entirely, one not affiliated with either that border her home lands. One her family has no influence in whatsoever. As such, they can't actively create an wide spread search for their missing daughter without deploying a large number of agents into foreign territory, which could be seen as an invasion of some sort, which would likely result in retaliation of some form. As such, Verity can go unnoticed fairly easily. So, how about I move on from House Caldwell and Verity's relationship with them? Tell you something about Verity and her magic insteads? Being the oldest child of the current head of House Caldwell, Verity is the next in line to inherit the title of house head. However, the stifling upbringing, as stated, caused her to rebel and seak out her own fate instead. Yet where this takes Verity is never fixed and, despite usually existing in a kingdom far from her family's reach, she can wind up pretty much anywhere you can imagine. Or, any-when as the case has wound up being more than once. Verity has no ability to travel through or manipulate time, yet that hasn't stopped her from being curious when faced with small rifts in space-time that can occasionally open through various means. Verity herself is only 23 years old, yet has wisdom beyond her years and knowledge few could hope to match. How? Well, you remember those rifts I mentioned? She's learned a thing or two from experimenting with them. That and she's had 15 years of being taught everything her family had learned over the centuries House Caldwell has existed before leaving home as well. Oh, right, did I forget to mention when she left before? She was 15 when she made that choice. On top of being young, Verity also has an immaturity similar to that of an over excited child. It doesn't always display itself, usually only when she's having fun, but it remains. Because of this, she has been known to go overboard on many occasions. Verity has long, flowing golden hair that, due to her magic, is usually able to be seen fluttering about behind her as if caught in the breeze. Usually, not always. If she's not using her magic for some reason, it doesn't do it and simply sits flat against her back, down below her waist. She has shiny purple eyes, that quite literally shine when looked at and gleam brightly when she gets excited. Verity also wears a childish grin on her face at all times, the only exception to this being when she's angry. A note I'll make here, try not to make her angry, she can do things with the wind you really wouldn't like. She tends to seem on the small side to most, standing at only 5'3" tall, yet also seeming to look taller at times due to her extremely lithe body type causing her to look long and thin. She tends to wear a fairly extravagent green and white outfit, the initial design created by her family to be both comfortable and practicle and updated by those who made new versions during Verity's travels to become what it is today (pictured). Verity has a short staff she carries around as well, this acting solely as a magic amplifyer and conduit for spells cast, serving no purpose to anyone that doesn't have Verity's magical signature. The staff is enchanted oak wood with a gold head fitted with two emeralds, all of which is also enchanted. The enchantments make the staff virtually indestructible, only respond to Verity's magic and give it greater amplification properties, while the emeralds serve the purpose storing magic in order to release as exceptionally powerful spells or as simple, non-elemental blasts with little power. If sapphires where used, or even rubies or diamonds, the effects would be vastly different based solely on the gem set in and what combination was used. Her personality is, as stated, rather excitable and childish at times, though usually chipper and friendly, to the point some have called her "obnoxiously friendly" in the past. The sort of person that gets curious about something, then doesn't leave you alone until she's asked you a thousand and one questions about it. She means well, she always does, but to most it can seem like a bit much. Finally, we get to Verity's magic. Spirit of Wind embodiment. This is simply a fancy way of saying that Verity has a strong mastery over wind magic and is highly capable of adapting and learning more of it. For the most part, she uses it in minimalistic ways, only spending miniscule amounts of magic at a time, yet achieving great feats with it. Verity is able to fly with the wind, create and guide storms and lightning, summon the rain, even make a tsunami if she so chooses, all by making subtle movements in the winds. Her ability with wind magic is only surpassed by two others, also people embodying the Spirit of Wind. Now, don't get me wrong, Verity CAN perform other types of magic, she'll just struggle when learning them and she doesn't require her embodiment to use wind magic either, it simply makes her better at it. There are some more advanced types you do need to embody to use, but wind is not one of them. So, if you can think of it, Verity can probably use the wind to do it, and then start casting actual spells as well. Part of the Verily_Verity collection.
