Vin is a nice, if somewhat sarcastic girl and is a mage. Though unlike some mages who use magic force and power to pull out they're spells Vin uses mathematical forumla's and calculations to generate and cast spells. While this makes her spells surprisingly powerful, she's also highly reliant on her spell book and there's little she can do without it. She often prefers to spend time reading and studying to doing anything outgoing or athletic, though she has a decent right hook if forced into a fight without her magic.
