Xenra
Experiment 09
A popular corporation had a hidden agenda: to create a race of creatures that would be unstoppable. Of course, they had the money to do this, being the giant company that they are. There were ten experiments, which each had their own specific genetic make up: wolf, dragon, fox, et cetera. Each subject was experimented on different ways, and of course, being unwilling hosts, they had no choice but to comply or die. There were many things going on in the experiments. Blood was taken away and replaced with other... 'liquids.' There were even some organ transplants. The company was found out, more or less, and destroyed.
But a few of the experiments escaped, Xenra being one of them. She was the ninth experiment. The company had approached her after their "feeler agents" happened upon her tribe in the untamed wilderness far to their east. Their fascination with the arcane arts had been deepened, but not satisfied, during their work on Experiments 07 and 08. Experiment 07 had volunteered actively to be a subject, and so the company thought it might be easier to get a new volunteer than to case a potential subject for months in secret before ambushing them. The company's agents offered anyone within Xenra's tribe the promise of "expanded power" if they volunteered for their experimentation program. Xenra was the only one to sign up - her tribe shunned her as a result, for they distrusted all outsiders... especially outsiders with advanced technology. Xenra very soon came to realize the mistake she had made.
Xenra was the eighth to escape. Experiment 01 didn't get a chance, as he was the first to be destroyed. Experiment 02 found this out, since she was next in line, and warned the others. Being as large as she was, she had a bit of trouble escaping, and so Xenra and the others helped her to show their gratitude. So far, all but the first experiment have escaped, and none have been caught. Hopefully it stays that way!
Xenra
Born under the name Xenra Anra Den'Xirana, she already was set on the path of a difficult life within her tribe, the Mak-Rhee. She was born with two sets of genitalia - male and female. The Mak-Rhee believe that "dark magic," exemplified by technology and science, is slowly corrupting the natural order. So, genetic aberrations like Xenra's hermaphroditism are seen as the scars of a decaying world becoming visible upon its children. But Xenra's mother, Xirana, would not disown her or have her body "adjusted" by the tribe's chief shaman. "She is my daughter," she told the tribe's elders sternly. "She will live as freely as I have."
Xenra's full name means "cherished gift, daughter of Xirana" in the language of the Mak-Rhee. Her first name on its own means "gift." Growing up among the Mak-Rhee, Xenra was often picked on and accosted about her gender by other children - even her own siblings. And the insults almost invariably involved the "gift" she bore beneath her loincloth. Her father was absent from her life; the Mak-Rhee society places females above males, and males are selected by females during a yearly mating ritual based upon their virility and positive characteristics - once a female is inseminated she discards the male, returning him to solitary life. Usually children are raised by their mother and her friends, but Xenra's "uniqueness" made her mother's friends shy away. So Xenra was raised solely by Xirana. But a childhood filled with abuse and humiliation did not make Xenra weak or passive at all. She grew into a strong-willed, strong-minded, quick-witted and intelligent young woman.
The Mak-Rhee are almost entirely of kitsune stock, but somewhere in their past they merged with a vulpine tribe. This thinned their blood, depriving the Mak-Rhee of the long lives and in-born magical abilities that traditional kistunes are blessed with. They still grow extra tails as they age - typically the completion of the second tail indicates adulthood in the Mak-Rhee. And some magic survives among them - weak magic, typically involving control over memory and thought. Xenra, like her mother, was growing into her ability to reach into others' memories. The Mak-Rhee practice "arcane tattooing," a tribal practice in which arcane compounds are injected into the flesh to enhance a person's magical abilities, or, in some cases, to awaken new ones.
The tattoos are what drew the attention of the company. After witnessing a few dramatic tattoing ceremonies and their results, they formulated their plan to acquire their next test subject. They approached the standoffish Mak-Rhee in broad daylight, their agents presenting themselves bluntly and plainly, with just the vaguest amount of lies on their lips to cover their true intents. The Mak-Rhee elders shunned the visitors, and exhorted their people to ignore their words and not be lured by the twisted tongue of dark magicians. They warned the agents that they had to leave Mak-Rhee lands or face violence in the near future.
The agents turned to leave, but at the last moment, Xenra rushed out from the tent where she had been secretly watching the proceedings. In front of her mother, her siblings, and her tribe's shamans and elders, Xenra said she wanted to go with the agents, to find out the true extent of her power. Her mother hid her face behind a veil. The shamans stood aghast. The elders scowled, stone-faced. They shunned Xenra, banishing her from the tribe until she saw the error of her ways... and she may not return unless she has totally turned her back on the "dark magic."
But Xenra didn't intend to come back. The way Xenra saw it, the company's agents were her ticket out of her tribe. She had endured enough of their insults, their caste system, and their naturalistic lifestyle. All her life she had longed for something better, not just a place where she could simply be herself despite her gender, but a place that offered her a more promising existence - a place where superstitions and legends were cast off, and her mind was freed to explore itself and the world as she saw fit. The company seemed to promise that for her.
It didn't take long for her to realize that wasn't the case. No less than two months later, as a needle slipped into her flesh and loosed a torrent of searing pain all through her spine, Xenra thought to herself, "I can't believe how wrong I was."
The company analyzed all of the tattoos she already had, determining the compounds they were made of and the effects they had on her. From these findings they started to brew their own "super-compounds," intending to use them to dramatically enhance Xenra's powers. Their super-soldier program was still devoid of an adequate espionage unit; they needed to start working on a "super spy," and Xenra seemed to be their best chance. Their new chemicals hurt her... very, very much. Each new tattoo was a new dance with agony. But by this time, it was far too late for her to escape.
Still, through all the pain, she did gain new abilities. Her simple ability to reach into another person's most recent memories was broadened and expanded into the ability to see their whole past. She could shuffle through the pages of another person's memory like the pages of a thick novel, and make them relive any moment as if it were happening just then. She became able to track anyone she had met, and if she became separated from them, she could teleport herself through all manner of barriers to be able to rejoin them - up to a distance. And in one experiment, she was brought into a room with an amnesiac... within minutes, the amnesiac's memory had been resurrected by Xenra, and he ran from the room, as if living through a nightmare he had forgotten long ago.
When the day of her liberation arrived, any soldier or scientist who crossed paths with Xenra immediately relived the most horrifying days of their lives in all their stark detail. She walked past them all as they shrieked and shook, a small grin on her face... payback for the pain they had caused her.
Xenra did not try to return to her tribe. She misses her mother from time to time, but other than her, there are none among the Mak-Rhee that Xenra wants to reunite with. After a few weeks of wandering through the lawless lands of the world, she came upon a big city and used her powers to set up a small underground business. She charges customers a large fee to relive any memory they wish - it's simple, easy, and very profitable. Word of her has spread throughout the city, from the underworld to the elite. But she remains enigmatic to them all; she's far too smart and cunning for anyone to follow her, extort her, or otherwise take advantage of her. She spends her money on simple pleasures like ice cream, feather pillows, and juice boxes. Freed from the mating cycle of her people, she beds down regularly with anyone she finds interesting and submissive. She finally has her freedom. She will not let anyone rob her of it.

Xenra purchased this particular dragon from a slave market for a great price! Dirt cheap! Of course, Xenra needs to pamper her chubby little dragon... And pamper her a lot. <3
