BACKGROUND
Did you ever want to just blend in with the crowd and be a normal person, unnoticed and unremarkable? Most don't. Yui Tengawa thought she didn't. Then, one day, something happened that set her apart from her peers and now her only wish is to be a normal girl again.

It all started when her grandmother fell very ill. Yui, being a dutiful girl, would visit the local shrine after school in order to pray for her. Then, one day, archery practice ran late, she had errands on the way, and it was dark by the time she arrived at the shrine. As she was leaving the grounds, a full moon in the sky, she was suddenly attacked by a yokai. Instead of simply cowering, she tried to fight back with her bow and arrows, though the monster was too fast for her. One of her arrows went astray and struck a sacred tree, splitting the shimenawa wrapped around it. This released the kami trapped inside, which granted her the power to fight back. She defeated the yokai and trapped it within the Yama's Mirror.

Yui's life was spared, but she found herself with duties and responsibilities far, far greater then she ever expected that she would have to take. Now, the kami expect her to actively hunt down yokai, to weaken them with holy arrows and mystic talismans, before sealing them away inside of the Yama's Mirror forever. Moreover, the yokai know both who and what she is and as a result, she has a giant target on her back. Her aura draws the supernatural to her like moths to a flame, so she can not simply lay aside her bow.

It's a terrifying way to live, with her life being thrown into danger several times a week to protect an ignorant and uncaring populace. As her 'extra-curricular' activities take her further away from her friends and family, she's becoming more and more lonely, and increasingly bitter about the lot that life has handed her. She does not like fighting... but she can not turn away because of her over-developed sense of duty and responsibility.

For almost all intents and purposes, Yui is still a normal girl with normal wants and needs. She enjoys shopping, music, the latest fashions, hanging out with her friends, and all the other things that a normal teenaged girl enjoys... it's just that she has less time for them as she's hunting down the supernatural. She would love to make some new friends to replace those that she's lost, but that is looking like it's just not in the cards.
