This story is true.

The world you see with your eyes is not the fullest expression of the world. The world you hear, the world you touch and smell and taste, is not the fullness of reality. There exists another layer, a more subtle layer, built not of matter and energy but of symbol and idea.

Everything has a spirit. Everything is alive. Trees talk to one another. Cars drive themselves. The rain sings as it falls. Waves cry out as they strike the shore, dying as they dissolve into foam, only to be reborn a moment later.

In this world of symbol and idea, there exist symbols and ideas that do not fully map to anything in the prosaic reality of energy and matter. They are bound by its rules only when it suits them. And it often does not suit them.

These symbols and ideas are alive, as everything else is alive. And sometimes, they get bored.

This is Faux.

He generally appears to be a young lime green fox boy, around eight or so, wearing a pair of green jeans and nothing else. He has red eyes, and a mop of slightly darker green 'hair' between his two large ears, as well as charcoal grey 'socks', 'gloves' and ears. He generally stands at a height of around 4'6". He acts the age he looks most of the time, being cute, friendly, and vaguely mischievous.

Of course, this is far from the truth. Faux is actually a trickster spirit, and isn't even a fox at all - the name is a visual pun that he chose himself. Faux is a semi-divine being, and is capable of expressing his nature as a 'breaker of rules' to bend or break the rules that govern reality - most strongly in regards to himself, but he can alter how anything is affected by the physical and magical laws of reality to some extent.

Faux's powers basically come in two 'levels' - miraculous powers and magical powers. His miraculous powers let him simply decide that a thing within his purview (that is, 'rule breaking') simply is - or sometimes simply isn't. His magical powers apply more broadly but are much weaker, but he's had a lot of time to learn different sorts of magic. Combining the two, he can effectively warp reality as he pleases, although sometimes his attempts don't go the way he was expecting.

Yeah, he's pretty OP. Luckily for most people, he's not malevolent.

This story is true.

One day, a creature that was as much thought and symbol as it was flesh and blood decided to visit the prosaic reality we see and feel with our own dulled senses. The creature shaped for itself a body, and set forth to find something to entertain itself.

In the mythic reality of symbol and thought, nothing truly dies. So imagine the creature's surprise when he came across the notion of death! How could disrupting something as insubstantial as a mere physical form cause that form's self to cease?

He especially found fascinating the idea that matter must consume other matter to continue to exist, subsuming the prey matter and causing its existence to meld into its own.

He happened across a woman who was also a snake. He saw that she was in the process of devouring other matter - specifically, the matter of a woman who was also an ape. The creature regarded the woman who was a snake as she devoured the other, and asked her how such a thing was possible.

The woman who was a snake responded by devouring the creature's body. She swallowed him whole, and plunged him into darkness, her matter eating away at his before absorbing and subsuming it.

"That was fun," the creature said, a moment later, as it rebuilt its body from stray matter in the ground. "Let me try."

And then the creature experienced the joy of subsuming a being's matter into its own.


Oh, and the one on the right? That's Sosie. She's his sister.
