Silas, or Sy, as he goes by, comes from a world where Humans, Demihumans, and Anthros live side by side with gods and monsters, demons and angels, aliens from outerspace, civilizations that live under the sea or deep in the earth, and a host of things that have no names, but still subscribe to the morning paper. Unfortunately for Silas, he was born feral, and no-one knows exactly where he came from, or how he came to be. The people who found him thought he was merely some sort of monster and the orphanage that took him in classified him as a forest spirit, but the professors that trawl orphanages out near the badlands looking for the strange to fuel their papers knew him for what he was immediately: a wolpertinger, a cross between a rabbit, a stag, and a sparrow, with a pair of fangs that none of those creatures possess. The problem being, wolpertingers are extinct.

Theories abound as to how the young man came to exist, a relic out of time, but Sy can't provide any answers. His memories of his time in the wild are fragmented, and mostly consist of flashes of emotion, images of the woods that dot the badlands, and flying away from things he couldn't eat.

Oh, yes. Sy is carnivorous. Did those fangs leave you with any doubts?

While he can eat veggies, and will under duress, he strongly prefers live prey. And, further, while he can eat meat, what he really likes is blood, fresh and hot, right from the source. Like a vampire bat, his saliva has anticoagulants in it, and his fangs make neat little puncture holes for him to drink through. He's very interested in learning how to eat people whole, having seen a few nagas manage the feat, but hasn't figured out how to manage it just yet.

In addition to hunting, Sy enjoys photography (which he sees as another form of hunting) people watching (occasionally to a slightly creepy extent, as he hasn't quite separated "watching people" from "practicing stalking prey" just yet) and going for a nice relaxing fly or run. To those ends, he normally has a disposable camera on him somewhere, and his footlocker at the orphanage is full of folders packed with photos. One of the kids at school introduced him to bicycles, and when not flying or running, he can be found zipping around on the orphanage's communal bicycle

Sy is at that age when he starts to notice other people as attractive, and he's very confused about that. Up until he was taken in, if it had blood and couldn't eat him, it was food. After that, he separated such things into "food" and "food only with permission." Now, he's having to rework his entire classification system to add "food that makes me feel squirmy and weird even before I eat it" and he's not sure what to do about that. In addition, he's fairly uncertain to this day about clothes, and while he wears the minimum needed to be modest, and a pair of thin soled toe shoes (having discovered that not having things stab him in the feet is quite nice) he's now discovering that clothing can be enticing, and that confuses the hell out of him even more.

Further confusing him is the fact that those who share features with him often embrace the concept of willing prey, and his growing urges to try it out for himself. With the abundance of spells, treatments, and alien tech in his world, being eaten need not be permanent, or even uncomfortable. But his wild side still insists that this is a terrible plan, and that predators are to be feared. Still, he watches his prey friends and wonders...is it only his fangs and vampirism that make him a predator? Do three parts prey animal to one part predator mean that he's destined to be eaten? Or should he go with his instincts over his curiosity and stick with nice, safe predation? Basically, he's not sure about any of this nonsense his rabbit and stag parts are feeding him these days.

In short, Sy is a young man with a lot of questions about life, and no easy answers.
