Her problems had all started at birth, when she was born into a naga family with pure blood pumping through her veins, only to be born a defect. Her body was different, too different, from her family, from her parents and her two sisters. She was seen as a flawed daughter in her cruel mother's eyes, but she hadn't been killed on the day on her birth. She was a disappointment to her family, but not enough to deserve being just taken out so quickly. She stayed alive that day, just through her mother's rare display of mercy.

But that didn't mean that she wasn't told she was a disappointment; she was told of her flawed existence, how she was akin to a mistake in her mother's eyes, all throughout her childhood. Her older sisters showed some support, but for the most part Amber had to take it on her own, and live with the pain. In time, she grew to hate her mother, giving up with trying to appease someone that could not be appeased. It was her mother's strength, her terrifying near total lack of mercy even to her own children and especially to her, that kept her from doing anything in her hatred. Her fear outweighed her rage.

Then her little sister, Sarah, was born. That's when things started to change. She helped raise Sarah, and despite the violent beatings she still endured at the time from her mom, she didn't take any of her rage out on her little sister. Instead, she ended up bonding closely with Sarah as they both grew up. Unfortunately, because of the bond the sisters shared, their mother stayed cruel to them both, even grew a little crueler because it was a bond shared with a halfnaga 'mistake'.

One day, everything changed for the sisters. Their mother, who had mostly just berated and insulted Amber, had gotten to the point where she started beating Amber down with her tail and her claws. Her intention was obvious, she stated it over and over again right to Amber's face that day; she was going to beat her mistake down, and then devour her. To get rid of her, once and for all. It was Sarah that lunged for her rescue, and fought to protect her. The fight was long, and painful to watch, as Amber could do nothing but watch her little sister fight to save her life.

Sarah won, but at a cost to them both. When Sarah had won, and Amber had been so involved with everything that had happened, both of them had broken many naga traditions. As a result, when their mother lost the duel, Amber's soul shattered from the toll. It was something that she didn't share with her little sister, and she could only guess if she was the only victim of the curse, or if Sarah's soul had shattered too.

When Sarah insisted that they both look into astral magicks, Amber hesitantly agreed. Part of her didn't want to, for both fear that they would find nothing and the thought that she deserved the eternal torment for her own existence. In the end, though, they both found that only a God could restore a soul, and that discovery lead to the day that Amber watched Sarah become a Goddess before her very eyes. A day that she still only remembers very vaguely, unaware that the same thing had happened to her.

But despite what they discovered, despite Godhood being attained, her soul remained damaged. For years she stayed unaware she was even immortal, her powers not tapped into in the slightest, though thanks to her sister's powers she no longer had to deal with the physical pain of having a broken soul.

Recently, she has discovered her immortality, and her powers that she could tap into. However, such powers she knows she knows she needs time to learn how to control, and to discover what powers she had at all. Because of this, of her need to train, she barely taps into her powers at all for fear of what damage she would cause, and what trouble would rain down on her if she brought too much attention to herself.

Amber is a character of mine that I really prefer being the predator with. Even though she's a Goddess in training, she's still able to be in a variety of situations, time and place, as a part of her discovering her abilities and training to use them. Prey is possible with her, but generally if I'm in a prey mood, I'll be using a different character.
