“In those days the world was simple… You fought.” - History

Long forgotten, beyond songs of old came a history drenched with the wickedness of power, a world torn apart by the very gods revered as its guardians. Before they were revered as the ideals they now are, the gods were omnipotent beings of physical might and mystic power. Young were these deities both in physiology and ideology, and like the bickering children they were, each god squabbled with one another. They each sought power beyond measure a way to transcend even their own stature, and reach blessed perfection alongside the Great Mother. Thus war broke across the world, a once empty canvass now painted with the blood of creatures raised solely to war. In these times creatures of myth were born, monstrosities devised by the imagination of each of their respected god, but despite their physical differences all that came forth from warring gods had one thing in the same. All creations were crude, their thoughts all fueled by a lust for battle. For what they battle for they did not ask nor did their creators care if they knew, all except for one.

The goddess Emaks Olema Madu long warring with her siblings saw that no end was within sight, but she was not the first to notice this. Minor gods had left the battle long ago, their plans set on other schemes to gain their own perfection. Madu however did not take this path instead she devised her own scheme to gain the upper hand. The goddess performed an unthinkable act to accomplish her plans, the deity ripping into her own essence to seed her new creation. From her came the first nagas, creatures of stone but far from just that. Inside them burned a soul and just as the Great Mother breathed life into the gods so did Madu to her followers. Greif, joy, rage, love, emotions no longer bound by heavenly decree. New to the world Madu guided them forward, abandoning the fields of battle to shape her creations in secret. Of those she created one had caught her admiration the most, a naga physically inferior to her sister, but whose inner flame burned the brightest. Corundum with the gentle guide of her goddess rose among her peers to lead them to salvation, and so forth began the age of devotion.

Free thinking, and with greater knowledge the nagas easily dominated the flimsy works of blood thirsty gods, and with each victory Madu gained greater strength. With such power other gods were incapable of continuing their campaign and all but disappeared into the shadows each claiming but a smaller piece of the world where they now tinkered with their own creations. Madu had triumphed in this feud, but regardless she had not reached what she had desired. Something was missing, and although her subjects were dutiful concerns still gnawed away at her. The goddess knew her creations were rough drafts, subjects that could truly never bow to her, ones that thought themselves equals. These fears would cause the goddess to discard the nagas, her gentle voice now silent to them as she worked on something greater. What came forth would be known as mortality, a fear of death and beyond, a solution to acquire ultimate devotion. From the blood of the goddess, she crated beings of flesh and bone, the form that new nagas now took. Their power was but a flicker from their ancestors, but at that cost they gained something far greater. They could breed and create new life, a species of endless devotion that could replenish their numbers. Now mortals would take the stage as the god’s final creation, the nagas of old gone and forgotten.

“Abandoned and forgotten. Forsaken by what we knew as our creator. What choice did we have?” –Her Story

Wicked is the path of vengeance, a suicidal march fueled by the bitter emptiness of failure. Banished by their own goddess the nagas of old were forced to live in a world or silence, a race lost in the confusion of an evolving world. Strongly independent now, each naga went their own separate way ashamed of their race for failing in the eyes of their goddess. Most went to live a life of solitude to self-reflect on their own failure, and to find their own voice to guide them.

Corundum was different however; the silence was maddening to her. Chosen by Madu above the others she felt special, that maybe her connection was closer than her peers. The quiet that followed their abandonment told a different story to the naga. She nonetheless refused to admit it, even mocking her sister’s choices to just admit defeat. Corundum had grander plans for she knew what her sisters did not; within the alluring whispers of her goddess she heard her curses. Madu could not hide her secrets from her; Corundum had always heard those beckons, her goddess’ ambitions for greater power. They grew louder with each prayer, and in the end she knew their abandonment was inevitable despite her hopes.

The months of silence after her abandonment would settle the naga, the snake realizing that her goddess did not know what she knew. Still blinded by the anger of abandonment the naga would use this for a grand plan, she would become a god in her own right. With such secrets the naga traveled though out the lands signing pacts of power with gods in exchange for her knowledge in mortality. She would seed the crops of a new war one between mortals and gods. New races were born into the world, humans, Anthros, and Demis of all shape and form now filled the lands each devoting their loyalty to their creator. This would however cause issues with the gods, as war would soon break out once more. The slaughters that ensued would be like nothing seen before however. No longer were pawns just killing machines each creation had a soul now, and with each death another was extinguished from existence. The world coiled in pain from this, trees withered and died, and the air grew stale with the smell of blood. The gods had grown from the children they once were, but what came from it was nothing the world needed. While the gods warred Corundum now had the perfect opportunity to seize her place among the gods, the naga devising a powerful spell to activate every pact she made with the gods at once. As the conduit of her spell she would siphon all the power into her very soul, the possibility that the strain would just rip it apart very likely.

With the final incantation Corundum would unleash the spell divine power flooding her domain as it pierced her very scales. What the naga had done however was far more then reaches godhood she had transcended beyond that, the key to true power being the power of every god working together. In that instant, but a mere flash to any mortals eyes, Corundum met the Great Mother. No words were spoken, but everything was discussed. Her race all races before hers were given what the naga truly wanted. They were given the godhood each of them deserved. Across the world creatures of stone now burned with the fires of a soul, and the nagas were given flesh and blood to feel the world around them. The great mother had brought equality to the world once more, and by doing so took away the physical being of the gods who had failed to see beyond power. They were now but forces in the world only able to manipulate their surroundings with the gentle push of their follower’s devotion. As for Corundum such a strain was too much for one who did not have the soul of a god, and as such she was damaged forever. True equality is not justice; as such a price was paid for the naga. For her scheming she was punished with a broken mind, loneliness and solitude her only future. Beyond legend she now lives secluded to everyone but the most adventures of individuals, but rarely are endings set in stone.
