For all intents and purposes, Dominic's mother was a dragon. Well, not in the literal sense, but she had the might and power of a dragon and could shapeshift into one. To better explain what I mean, I will be telling you the wretched tale of Dominic's mother, The Queen.
Have you ever heard the tale of Sun, Moon, and Talia? Well it's tale from which today's Sleeping Beauty has originated. It depicts a vain, petty, evil queen who attempts to kill the children of her husband's affair and feed them to him. ...yup that's Dominic's mom while she was still mortal.
The story goes like this: A beautiful daughter of a powerful lord, Talia, got a small flaxxen splinter under her fingernail and fell into a death-like sleep. The lord, believing she was dead, was so distraught that he hid her body in one of his great mansions far out in the country, seated upon a velvet throne.
Now, The King of the land enjoyed spending days hunting in the woods. (You would too if you had Dominic's Mom for a wife!) One day his falcon flew into the mansion that Talia was sleeping in and would not return when called, so the king entered to find his bird. What he found instead was a woman of unspeakable beauty... unconscious. ... Suffice to say, she got pregnant. Ew.
After 9 months had passed, she gave birth, even while in her slumber. She had twins, one boy, one girl. The fairies heard their cries and saw that they could not get to their mother's breasts, and so they lifted the children and laid one on each side. Then one of the children suckled on the finger with the flax splinter, and the splinter came out. Talia awoke!
Now, The King may have been a rapist, but he was NOT a deadbeat dad. He returned later (gross) to find that the girl had awoken and had two children! The King, having no heirs of his own, was overjoyed and spent his spare time visiting them.
After a while, The Queen knew something was up, so she sent spies after her husband and found his second family. Enraged, she invited them over and had them arrested. She gave the children to the chef and told him to kill them and make them into dishes for The King to eat. The chef decided that she was bat shit crazy and hid the kids, serving lamb instead. The Queen, believing that the children were dead, watched with glee as The King ate those dishes. That was not enough, though. After The King had eaten the stew and left to the mansion where he believed his family to be, she ordered Talia to be burnt at the stake.
Talia wept and cried, but The Queen knew no mercy; she laughed, believing she had won. Then The King, returned, saw all the evil doings of The Queen and demanded to have her and the chef burned at the stake. The chef returned the two children and became a great lord for his deeds, but The Queen met a bad and fiery end.
However, the story of The Queen does not end there. Her soul, so hideously evil, was rejected by The Great Tree and it changed into that of a Preta. For decades, she wandered the earth as this unsightly spirit, until she had a chance encounter with a demon from hell. The demon mocked and teased her form, calling her names that are taboo even to demons. She became enraged once more and managed to beat him within an inch of his life.
The demon scurried back to hell and told his superiors in hopes that they would punish The Queen for her violence. Instead, his superiors were very impressed and decided to employ her. She was granted the status and power of a low level demon, regaining her mind, but remained as unsightly as before. She could remember all that had happened during her mortal life. All, except for her name.
As centuries rolled by, she carved out a name for herself, one that even reached the ears of the Devil. They gave her a new name, Maleficent. She continued to climb the ladder, making deals with mortals for their souls and gaining favor and power. Towards the end of the time she spent as a demon, she was granted by the Devil themself the ability to transform into the creature her tenacity resembled. She could transform into a dragon.
Still, her vanity and greed knew no bounds, and she desired more than anything else to have her old beauty back. Then on one chance encounter, she made a deal with a fairy. Using all her trickery and cunning, she conned the fairy out of it's body and soul, claiming the former for her own. Now in the body of an immortal creature, she cast a spell on herself; a spell of transformation to change the body's appearance to the body that once was hers. All that was required was nine months of slumber to be reborn, so she hid herself away and slept.
Now, you should know that fate has a sense of humor and no love for the wicked. For while Maleficent slept undergoing the transformation, only 3 days had passed before she was discovered by a man who was hunting in the woods. Horny guy, unconscious chick, say does this sound familiar yet? Maleficent woke from her 9 months slumber to find she was in labor. Finally, she gave birth to Dominic, the child was born with physical traits of her dragon-like tenacity. Enraged and ashamed though she was, she believed the boy would be a great asset to the kingdom she planned to rule.
In time as Dominic grew, after the kingdom fell and his mother had gone missing, he was approached by a giant who claimed that he was his father. The idea was met with resistance at first, but in time Dominic came to understand that he was telling the truth. His conception was not what it had seemed and his mother was not raped by a hunter, it was indeed Aumbur who had tracked her down and sought out her hiding place, only to find her in a transformative sleep. The irony was to great to pass up, and as such Aumbur took revenge for a wicked deed with a wave of his hand, implanting life within the evil fae. He has since stepped in and acted as the father he had once been so absent as, helping Dominic to find his place in the world.
And as for the father?No one knows who or what he was. Most likely he was human, but perhaps we will never learn. Well, now I guess we know!
