Desideriis
== About Desideriis ==
Desideriis is a planet so vast and larger than earth, that even for the more technologically advanced civilizations, it may as well be a multiverse. This is where all of my characters originate from!
Life on Desideriis is not the same as life on earth. For one thing, death is impermanent. The Grand Tree was the first life born on the planet. Nurtured by The Fugitive, it grew to be the only life form that would manage to travel around the entire world, encompassing it in miles upon miles of deep roots under the ground. Eventually, the tree began to bear fruit. With it's branches reaching out and tracing along the atmosphere, it had gathered enough energy to create something new. A soul. An ancient had been born.
As time went on, the ancient grew old and perished. It's soul found itself being drawn back into the roots of the tree from whence it came and it journeyed into the collosal body of the tree. It collected energy from the tree for one day and then returned by the same root paths it had taken to the place it had fallen and died. A flower grew. Within a day it bore a large pearlescent white fruit from which the ancient emerged like a butterfly emerging from a crystalis. The ancient was alive and young again. They had been reborn.
Over thousands of years, more ancients had been born, and they found that they could create souls of their own when intimate with one another. They could have children. In time, the early children of the ancients had essentially created what one could call a pantheon and considered themselves as gods over their own children. They traveled far and wide, establishing their own colonies and cultures free from the influence of the other ancients.
All sentient life followed the same paths along the roots as the ancients to The Great Tree and were reborn by it as well. However, as people of the more nomadic sort got further and further away from the tree, they noticed that the time for one to be reborn grew longer and longer. In The Jungle Overshadowed that lies at the base of the tree, rebirth takes 2 days. But for the most far travelling groups, it would take upwards of a thousand years.
The planet is much older now, and many of the ancients, stuck in their old ways, have retreated to lives of solitude where they continued to pretend they were gods. The twin moons smile at the inhabitants of the Desideriis, watching life passively and awaiting The Fugitive's return.
