Name: Galtharon (Deceased, slain by
Illia_Arrophen and
Elli_Arrophen)
Species: Very Young Red Dragon
Age: Roughly 7 years old at time of death.
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Now, nothing more than a pile of flash-frozen ash upon a cavern floor north of Cogswell.
Demeanor:
Galtharon is an unusual creature among dragons of his age. He is clever. He is not merely slightly clever, but is a far-thinking being, even at his earliest of stages in growth. Upon hatching, the foul little creature found access to a small selection of tomes that he has hoarded into his own personal segment of the communal cavern his clutch currently resides in. The texts, largely written in elven, are arcane research and history texts that have significantly broadened the scope of Galtharon’s understanding and ambitions.
Creatures this cunning rarely lack for ambition, and the youthful wyrmling is no exception. However, Galtharon is a creature who is cautious, despite his more pronounced physical and mental abilities. He has quickly come to terms with his own limitations and grows at a steady pace, preferring to make use of proxies to do his dirty work. Anything which can net him favor with powerful allies for future use and which can produce a proxy for his schemes qualifies as an ideal situation. Gold he adores. Gems shine. Magic glitters with the most precious of light. But, there is nothing quite like the sensation of having power over someone else. Power over a nation, or a planet? Divine.
Galtharon’s ambitions are almost megalomaniacal for something so young. It is as if he knew he was destined for greatness and had the wisdom not to leap off and get himself killed too soon. Were he to live long enough, it is quite obvious that the dreadful creature would eventually pose a very serious threat to all who opposed him.
History:
Galtharon is a scant four years old, swiftly approaching his fifth year. His clutch-mates all grow slowly towards their next stages, and are likely to complete that growth within the time frame as they eat and devour all in their paths. Galtharon, on the other hand, is almost at the next stage of his development. He is precocious and avaricious in the extreme.
One thing of particular note has occurred since he came to this cavern, shortly after the clutch was born in the high mountains. He found the Flute of the Southern Blight, an extremely dangerous and ancient artifact whose function was the calling forth of one of various plagues. It was an unexpected find, and only a matter of luck that one of his few texts had mentioned the construct. Immediately, Galtharon viewed this as a plausible means to garner power. He swiftly learned most of the techniques for playing the flute, only to come to another far more potent realization. He was not capable of keeping the flute from being found by more powerful creatures. Luckily for his clutch, none who have come have been a dire threat. However, the most recent of these events heralded the death of one of his one sister. That death has served to warn Galtharon that, should he not be rid of the relic or use it to full effect soon, he will likely follow his siblings.
Bearing this very real possibility in mind, he has kept the adventurer who slew his sister, Priorika. Through intimidation and command over his brothers, he has shown them the need to be rid of the flute rather than use it and die. He has claimed the adventurer, a paladin named
Elli_Arrophen as a prize and, in typical fashion, used her as a proxy for a series of schemes. Impregnated by him, he hopes to use her to spawn a new proxy of unique talents, a half-dragon who will serve him after being raised by him. Further, she will be able to safely remove the Flute of the Southern Blight, freeing him from the danger the weapon possesses. Other relics will come, and that one’s uses are sufficiently limited to not merit further consideration. Lastly, a strange development of her captivity has resulted in the fragmenting of her mind, allowing him to use her to help sanctify a new temple to Tiamat, the goddess of chromatic dragons. All told, though he has treated her with contempt, lies and out-and-out brutality, he is surprised by just how useful this mentally damaged paladin is proving to be.
And yet… somewhere in the ether, Tiamat smiles, for Galtharon is unaware of the nature of the destiny he possesses. The signs point to him as herald, not as champion, and his fate is perhaps somewhat ironic in the end. Within the womb of Elli Arrophen lies not a half dragon, but a full-breed hatchling. Her ties to Bahamut allow this unique and unholy occurrence to come to bear, and should it come to term, a new hatchling will be born, one unlike any the Chromatic dragons have ever seen. If only this Red’s greed and ambition can be kept before him like a carrot long enough to protect a unique prize for his dark goddess.
Final Fate of the Brood:
Galtharon - His ambitions have failed him. Slain at the hands of his own daughter and the woman he raped, he has been metted the vengeance of Bahamut by his chosen.
Diomedar - Slain by his brother Flare in mortal combat as Galtharon died.
Char - Slain by the local militias of Cogswell in a massive, coordinated effort to track him down and trap him.
Priorika - slain by Elli Arrophen on their first encounter.
Flare - Alive... and apparently seeking to wed his former victim, having found some form of redemption.
